WTF? 4 points for a parking lot fender bender????

My insurance rep said they don't see a dime of the extra money and they have no choice but to charge me for it.
I find this hard to believe. Point of surcharges (accident, speeding or otherwise) is that you are supposedly higher risk, so if you keep getting into accidents, the insurance co is more likely to have to pay out on your behalf. Hence the rate increase is payment to cover the higher anticipated costs associated with that that higher risk. If the insurance company didn't see a dime of the surcharge increase, then you could keep getting into accidents and there's no way that the company would compensate for the associated loss. It just doesn't make sense that surcharge money would not go to the insurance company but to the state.

I suppose it doesn't make sense, but that's what I was told. Eh, whatever its money out of my pocket and that's all that matters.

The agent does make comission on your full premium. Might be 7.5%-10%............

2K is nothing. My son rolled the MZ5 onto a curb at a Starbuck's drivethru, did some relatively minor damage coming back off of it, where it crunched the rocker panel and broke the aero skirt off. Wheel & tire damage $190/rim for repairs only, not replacement, that brought it to $3600. To be fair to him, there was no warning of the very high curb, no paint, rails or posts and it was pouring rain. The all laughed at him when he went in to complain about it. Went by there last week, the curb is now gone, there's 4' high yellow posts in its place.

Yeah...exactly. When I think of "Major Accident" I think of cars upside down in the middle of route 128 during rush hour. ...not a parking lot fender bender or hitting a curb.

Plymouth Rock Assurance. The price I got from AAA was virtually identical except I get a 5% discount for being a AAA member. In Mass it makes absolutely no difference who your agent/company is. Mass dictates the prices so you can't save by switching except for the case with AAA.

I switched to plymouth rock when I left hanover.....they have a great program with your homeowners if you have your auto with them.......
