WTB stock subwoofer for Mp5

I actually saw one for sell 2 weeks ago on ebay, but I had to go outta the country and forgot to snip it. Also, the previous owner had an aftermarket sub which he took, but all the wiring are still there so if I get one, all I have to do is pug it in....tempting...just didn't want a sub in the trunk though cuz it's so big and I don't want to move it all the time.

Just so everyone knows, there's ALOT more than jsut the sub itself involved inthe aftermarket sub. The deal also includes an elevated subfloor storage bin that's about 3" tall and provisions to flip your spare tire upside down.

It was NOT available in canada, and was only stock on the American 03.5's and an option on I believe all US model years.

now that im looking at it it doesnt really look like a sub, it looks more like a round amp. never the less id still like to have one come with my car, and ur right we canadians always get shafted on that stuff :(

That's why I like the stock sub. Lose a little cargo space. Otherwise, you can still fit a lotta crap in!

You can't call that thing a Subwoofer. :(

exactly, just pull some Bose marketing and call it a "bass module" cause it doesnt hit the sub frequencies

it is nice to have the added little bit of thump without losing any cargo space though

doesnt seem like it would be worth the hassle to install one though

would be easier to just add a small box and a 8" sub which would sound better anyway

I just wanted one that can do the job. The previous owner in my mp5 took out the sub and therefore, I am left with only the speakers. when I drive on the freeway, I can barely hear my CDs. I was thinking about replacing the speakers, but then again, I heard the installation is pretty complicated. is this correct? Anyone know the spec for our speakers? I have a 2002 protege 5

If you have a 2002, then you never had a factory subwoofer to begin with. Only the 2003.5 came with them.

You don't have the factory wiring for the subwoofer, either. I certainly don't want to sound rude, but wiring in that factory sub is going to be much more complicated than replacing the speakers.

That's weird because I am friends with the preivous owner and he told me that he took out the sub because he installed another sub in there. There are definitely wires hanging out both in the trunk and under the desh in the front (above the clutch) that looks like speaker wires. I think I need to bring my bat to go talk to him next time I see him =p. anyways..does anyone know some good aftermarket speakers for 2002 mp5? And what sizes are they front and rear?

Ok, the stock sub is not hooked using RCA's or speaker wires, it's a seperate line that runs from the HU all the way back and it's totally hidden. Make sure it's actually an 02, it should say on the drivers door on the sticker right under the latch. Maybe when he bought it someone had already installed a sub, and he replaced that one.

I have JL Tr series speakers in the front and I love them. The fronts are 6x8" and the rears are 6.5". I recomend Infiniti or Alpine for the rears, but the 6x8 is a hard to find size only on Ford (and it's bitches, like Mazda) vehicles. I like the TR's and I actually have an extra set that I bought to replace the rears before I realized that they were 6.5", so if you want em make me an offer
