Would you do it again?

Let me add to my previous post that I wouldn't buy another as a replacement in the future, I WOULD buy another now, if something tragic was to happen to my 5 NOW! This is the best vehicle for my family at this point in time.

Is it possible for Mazda to bulid a Mazdaspeed5 under $25K? Yes

Mazda3 and Mazda5 are sharing a lot of parts already, a lot of parts from Mazdaspeed 3 should able to carry over to the Mazda5 chassic without major modification.
4WD Mazda5 is already avalible in Japen.
2.3 turbo engine is already in Mazdaspeed 3, Mazdaspeed 6, and CX-7.
6 spds manuel transmission is already in Mazdaspeed 3 and Mazdaspeed 6.
MSRP for the Mazdaspeed 3 is around $23k. To keep the 4WD Mazdaspeed 5 under $25k shouldn't be that difficult...

If I have the time and money, I will do the conversion to my Mazda5 if Mazda won't bulid a Mazdaspeed5...

at this point I'm leaning toward no. too many niggiling things that distract from the new car experience. Creaks in the windshield at cold temps, creaking suspension, clicking noises (A/C i think), Intermittant losses of power under acceleration, creaking from the B-pillar mounts for the sliding doors, windshield wiper motor that intermitantly groans loud enough that you have to turn up the stereo to drown it out. All this and I only have 18,000km on itand 9 months of ownership.. seems to be too many little issues. I think a Forester would be the next choice. more expensive ,yes but I believe it'd be $ well spent. I'm disapointed cuz my sister had a MX5 and it was a dream. Hardly a problem @ all.

I was one of the first batch of 5's off the boat in North America, and it's safe to say I would buy another one. My family loves the versatility of the car, while I love the driving dynamics. Yes, like any "new car" it has it's niggles - mostly with the suspension creak - but they are minor compared with the sheer fun the vehicle is to drive.

... and it's still the only vehicle in it's class that sports a manual transmission.

My family and I just attended the Detroit Auto Show. For those who do not know, the Detroit Auto Show is one of the most complete auto shows in the world. After spending five hours there and going by every stand we walked away and stated "I don't think there was another vehicle here that would make us as happy as the 5". By the way, the Rondo is even uglier in person than it is in the picutres.

Touch wood, but my 2007 GT has yet to develop any of the problems as mentioned. The only issue I had was the overflowing gas tank but that has been resolved since I started to pay extra attention to leave a small gap when filling up, so pressure won't build up in the tank. I guess they have worked out most of those early glitches in the last two years.

As many have said, I don't find another vehicle in the market that is as versatile and fun to drive. So it would still be my choice if I had to do it again.

You had overflowing problem? The pumps always stopped when there is at least 2 more gallons before overflow on my 5...

While I absolutely love the Mazda5 for it's packaging and exterior style I probably would not buy it again because of the annoying little problems (lack of power, squeaky suspension front and rear, sliding door, engine hesitation etc).
These problems are not that significant when viewied on an individual basis, however when lumped together they do make a difference to the overall driving experience.....
I'd probably spend the extra $$$ and go for the MAzda6 wagon instead.
Fortunately I have a 3 year lease so I plan to return it at the end of the lease and look for something else......Hopefully the Mazda6 wagon will still be offered at that time.

Yes...

I would say yes. I'm not sold to Mazda (yet) but by the time I start looking for the next car:

1) I'm pretty sure the MZ5 interior and exterior design will be even better looking
2) Any MZ5 flaws that came with first to market models will be fixed

Unfortunately there's no plans to continue the 6 wagon when the new model is introduced.

Good point DoctorZ. I still remember the first Honda Odyssey for that matter. If they want to make it bigger, it's better if they do it to the Japanese Mazda MPV instead. Now I will wait to see the next MZ3 model to find out how "big/heavy" the MZ5 will get (if they stick to the same design principle)

I would definitely buy it again. Only one thing I don't like too much it's rain sensor wipers. To be more specific lack of different speeds in manual mode.
It's really only 2 speeds too slow and too fast, otherwise you have to rely on auto mode.
Other thing that comes to my mind it's the side sills. They are real pain in the winter because they add so much snow to the front wheels and I have only 16" winter wheel/tire package.

If I had to do it all over again, I'd absolutly get a 5. Only I might get it with a sun roof.
