I would buy one if the price was right and it came with sport suspension, forced induction, a proper tune and of course all the extra bling that comes with any other MAZDASPEED...

Seems the RX-8 is on the way out in the next few years...If it were up to me, I would launch a MAZDASPEED2 & a next gen RX-7 at the same time and show that Mazda takes its "ZOOM-ZOOM" slogan SERIOUSLY!!!

The automotive world needs a fresh shot of EXCITEMENT and Mazda should be the leading provider of EXCITEMENT & GREAT VALUE across the market range...Imagine such a lineup: MAZDASPEED2, MAZDASPEED3, MAZDASPEED6 & a next gen RX-7 (or RX-9)...Such a lineup would get a lot of people in the showrooms and excited about buying & owning a Mazda! :D

Add to that the possibility of a CX-5...Imagine a MAZDASPEED CX-5 light duty off-roader with extra "ZOOM-ZOOM"...That would be very cool! (rockon)
I would get the next gen RX over the MS2.... hahahah

a mazdaspeed RX would be awesome, but it'll never happen for profitability reasons. no business man would be able to justify making it.

Something like this (but a 4-door) (2thumbs)

Actually, I like that the way it is. All I need is 3-doors. :)

i was joking before, but seriously, i went to the dealership and checked one out, and it was pretty sweet, a lot roomier on the inside than i thought it would be, but 100hp isn't gonna cut it lol

I would seriously consider a mazdaspeeed version, given it has a power boost of 100+hp, i know it sounds like a lot cause it would be double what it makes currently, but stock sentra's make 160, so a mazdaspeed version making the same amount would be useless. it would have to be something cool for me to get one.

Sidenote - they should keep doing a limited color on mazdaspeed's that is rarer than the rest, like the MSP has spicy orange mica, and the MSM has lava orange. I'm not saying orange is the color to use, but something different that you don't see on the road to much. (why i love the green the Mazda2 comes in)

I don't know what you're talking about. Stock Sentra 2.0s make 140. The Spec-V makes 200 but weighs over 3000 lbs.

Mazda2 weighs over 700 lbs less. That's a distinct advantage.

yeah 700 lbs is like having an extra 70 hp advantage.

Compete with the MINI head on, there's nothing in the US to compete with the 'S'. Make a turbo 180-200 hp simple, reliable engine (avoid direct injection) and you have already won. Then just clean wheels & aero kit, nice suspension with a nice mild drop and a 6 speed Getrag.

THEN RUN IT AROUND THE SAME PRICE AS A REGULAR COOPER

then start stocking them cause they will sell

And bring Spicy Orange Mica back hahaha

When we drove the Mazda2 against the Honda Fit and a V-Box, it was just a few tenths slower against the clock (but the engine was very green, just 100 miles on the odometer!).

That's with a four-speed AT and nearly 20 hp less. With a manual transmission, it should be in the mid-to-high 9s to 60 mph. With just 140-150 hp (out of a 2 liter engine or a turbo 1.5), it should do 6-7.

Oh. And it cornered better than the Fit, too. Damn... the Honda has gained some pork and lost some zing in the current generation... :(

Two words; NO SMILEY!!!

the smile isnt as bad as the new 3's

So the Mazda2 Sport costs $14k and the Touring costs $15.5k. Both have a 100hp/98lb-tq 1.5L engine with vvt and a compression of 10:0:1. MPGs is 29/35 for the 5spd. major competitors would be what, the Honda Fit, Nissan Versa, and the Toyota Yaris? if they made a MS2 my guess BHP would be around 150-160ish and it'll be supercharged. But I've never seen a supercharged Mazda other than the Millenia. Can't wait to see if they decide to make a certain model like Mitsubishi did with the Rally Art editions.

with destination fee's, the 2 touring is closer to 17k.

plus, i think the ford fiesta will be a major competitor. it is larger, has a larger engine, but gets better mpg. with what i want, (and i have priced them out) they are almost the same price. not to mention, there are so many more options for the fiesta. so they can get more pricey if you want, but they are options the mazda does not have.

i have driven a mazda2 auto. like the others have said, it is pretty big inside for the size. it has descent get up, even for the auto. it handles very well. the steering is very direct, and it takes the crappy MI roads like a champ.

now if they come out with a MS2 before the Fiesta ST, they will have something.

I would trade in my MS3 for a spicey orange MS2 so fast my wife wouldn't even have a chance to tell me no. I love my MS3, but you can't miss something till its gone.

Cute car for a girl... Looks like somethin that was built to compete with the yaris, personally wouldnt drive either versions of this car

I think the mazda2, like the 2011 US fiesta, has great potential. For most drivers, they're both already great subcompacts with above-average handling and something to offer in appearance that goes beyond "one of the cheapest new cars on the market." The fiesta probably edges out the mazda2 on interior design, just a little, but with its reduced weight, the mz2 doesn't lose by default for its lower output power/torque, especially considering the fiesta's high 3rd gear... I'd love to see the mazda2 with an NA engine that could kick out about 130hp/ft-lbs, and then, of course, a mazdaspeed2. I won't likely be buying either hypothetical improvement, though, having picked up my 2010 mazda3 s sport less than three weeks ago. :)

The idea of power and suspension mods are a common desire for a Mazda 2, but I think that the Mazdaspeed 2 would be better suited with a higher HP N/A motor than a turbo motor. It would be cheaper and make for a more reliable car. Not to mention it would still be fast! Throw in the 2.5l 4cyl from the 3 and you have a 14 second NA beast.

I would pick up a Mazdaspeed2 it would make an awesome Auto Cross car!!!!

it would probably have to go against D-stock.. right now if you were to race a 2 now, it would be in H-stock.. and comparing it with the Mini, not only its down on HP, but it's really down on the rear suspension to get the car to rotate.. the car wont last too long in H-Stock due to the fatigue of the torsion beam, not to mention uneven pavement.

I thought about it myself, but we'll see how 1 year of it in the WDCR region it will hold out. We have a lot of national champions here, but I'm only a regional champion for STS a couple of years back.

If the Mazdaspeed 2 revised the rear to something like multi-link somehow and disc brakes instead of heavy drums, then it might have a chance (assuming the motor can put out 180 whp, or 200 hp at the motor).
