Would this be a step down?

What do you guys think? I have a '06 speed 6 gt fully loaded. I'm thinking about the '10 speed 3. Do you think this is a step down even though the 3 is newer. (and yes, I do want to hear from the bias 6 owners

Personally, I think its a small step down. It's practically a lateral move.

Keep in mind, it's a smaller car, no AWD, and unless you get the tech package, missing some of the standard features you get with the MS6.

On the other hand, it's lighter, most of your basic bolt on mods will carry over, and has some refinements that appear to benefit the platform (revised gearing, electronic power steering). The look is a big change as well, but that's personal preference.

Yes, I forgot to mention you will have that once again. It's controlled, but you still have it.

Also, remember that the MS3 has torque/boost limiting in the first few gears, while the MS6 does not.

That's pretty much what I'm thinking.....the only problem is that I'm itching for something new and mazda failled to deliver a speed6 replacement. If the speed3 was AWD I would have been on that in a heart beat. Even if the new 6 with the V6 had come in AWD I would have gotten that (even without being a mazdaspeed). Payments are done....I'm just jonesin' for sumptin new.

The new Ralliart Lancer and the new WRX are both something to look at as well.

I hate to steer you away from Mazda, but those cars are very similar to the MS6 and are along the same price as a MS3.

Torque steer is what turned me away from the MS3. Also, the new one looks like a catfish to me (picture a huge mouth with beedy eyes and whiskers). With all of that said, it may not hurt to look at the Lancer and WRX, like Blender said.

The only downside I see to the Lancer and WRX is the interior fit & finish. Also, the Lancer is a pricey one to go with, and its reviews haven't been stellar.

I'm with Steve, I love the interior in the Speed6, and any new car I was considering would have to be at least as nice a place for me to live while I'm behind the wheel. The WRX doesn't look too bad in pictures, but I haven't been in one.

I don't think we were bias either. As much as I love Mazdas, I try to keep an open mind.

maybe a used s60r or a saaaaab combi? but, as far as new, i would look at the wrx (ken block is my hero). that ralliart lancer is too overpriced imho. and i've got to agree w/ what everyone else is saying....torque steer and all!
