I was wondering if anyone has heard Kenwood's woox sub in their 3. I was reading the reviews and people say its pretty good. I don't want to break $300 and I'm really looking for just a little bit more low end while keeping as much usable space as possible and the stock deck. I was also wondering if it would fit under the passenger seat? I have no experience with car audio and was wondering what you guys thought.

I picked up one of these and installed it in the trunk of my sister's Protege ES two years ago. Was an easy install and sounds pretty good for a little bass upgrade. The remote is very nice to mount on the center arm-rest. Takes up no space where you mount the sub, which is nice........

I had one installed in my Frontier Crew Cab. I pulled it out and would be willing to sell it if you are interested. I am asking $100. I think I have all the paperwork and the original box. My favorite feature was the remote. You could dial it in on the fly depending on what you were listening to. My friends never believed that I didn't have an 8" sub in the back.

There are a few scuffs on it from being behind a seat and you will have to run your own wires (add length) for the line out converter if you use that, and the power lead.

...good price here. retails for $220 i believe back in the day. i don't believe it can get abused either.

Does anyone know how this compares to Infinity's Basslink? How easy would the set up be for the WOOX in the 3? I have no experience with any car audio and I've never taken panels off my car for wiring or anything for that matter. I'm pretty new to this stuff.

I can check if it will fit for you.

My thoughts on the wOOx... If you want trunk rattling bass this will not give it to you. If you want better bass than what the speakers in the doors can produce that doesn't over power the rest of your music, you will be happy. I was pleasantly surprised with how this thing sounded.

As for wiring, it is pretty easy. If you use your factory deck, you tie in four wires to your speaker leads, either at the doors or at the wiring harness at the back of the head unit. You will also have to tie in a signal wire that turns the wOOx on with your stereo and run a power line to your battery.

I took it out, because I sold the vehicle that it was in. I have a friend that is hooking me up with a nice JL setup for the new car so I figured if I could sell the wOOx, I could have some $$ going towards a new set up.

I do have Kenwood WOOX AND a Mazda3.... but not installed yet. I tried slipping it under the passenger seat, but failed. It may fit by removing the seat first... but i am lazy! ;-) I am considering installing in the trunk because i will probably using the "under the seat" to install an amp or two.

But if it does fit under the passenger seat, your lucky passenger can expect to feel the music as well as hearing it. I don't know of the WOOX sound in a trunk, but i used mine behind the driver seat in my old 2 door Sunbird and i could feel every bass note.... but that made my ride a 3 passenger only car... would not fit under a seat unfortunately.

If you can fit the WOOX inside the cabin, your sound will benefit a lot from that small box..... as long as you are not a basshead hip-hop/rap afficionado. I personnally listen to jazz, blues and pop and find the WOOX is a great buy considering how little space it takes. Just don't expect to blow the doors off when you crank the volume up.

I just paid for an Infinity Basslink on eBay (eagerly awaiting its arrival), but I did come across this thread on another forum that might be of use to those with/contemplating the Kenwood wOOx. A user on that forum has sucessfully installed the wOOx under the driver's seat (originally positioned front-back, but later managed to mount it left-right), without removing the seat.

hmm, well i've been hearing good things about the basslink. has anyone had any experience with this too? I've read good things, but i haven't seen any install pics. It shouldn't take too much room in the trunk right? Also would i have to use the remote signal from the deck since the basslink already senses voltage?

I just installed my Basslink today. I have to say, What An Effin' Improvement! It definately rounds out the stock system very nicely. As others have mentioned, it won't rattle the windows, but it's still quite good at hitting the lows and it isn't muddy either. Very clean sound! I have to experiment a bit with getting it dialed in, but even just the quick tweaks i did make a huge improvement in listening enjoyment.

I'm very excited! (Like I needed another reason to drive my 3... )

P.S. Digi-cam bit the dust at a friend's birthday party, so no install pics. I just followed various threads to help me out. I placed the Basslink in the trunk on the left side, up close to the seat with the front of it facing the right side. I ran the power wire through the hood release gommet and ran it down the left side of the car to the trunk. The speaker level splices came from behind the head unit, with the wires running from there to behind the glovebox, then down the right side of the car, behind/under the rear seat to the left side of the trunk. I drilled a ground wire in the trunk area, under the left panel just out of sight near the forward-most clip-thing.

I haven't mounted the Basslink permanently yet, but it seems stable so far. I don't trust this last statement, so I think some hefty Velcro under the feet would be more than enough to keep it from flying away. I might drill a hole and screw it down, but i don't feel that it's necessary at this point.

So you didn't run any remote wires from the deck?

Correct. The basslink has an "auto-on" feature; When using speaker-level inputs, it senses when an audio signal is being sent from the deck and powers the sub on. In essence, the speaker-level wiring is the remote lead. Kind of a neat feature - also auto-off's.
