Woo Hoo Delivery Tomorrow.

So what is it that I should be missing compared to US/Canada versions, what is the radar for?

If you have: radar cruise control, braking support, and lane departure [which you certainly do if it's a sig...unless they delete them from South American vehicles?!?] that's what it's for.

If you have them, you have radar. Do you?

It's funny how people often just see what they expect to see. "Who you gonna believe, me or your lyin' eyes?" Look again, folks.

You have what's obviously a redesigned front emblem. No worries.

Anyway returned to the dealer today to see about changing the tint on the front windshield. Per recommendation of the sales woman they had installed 20% which I could barely see out of at night. Today at my request they removed the old and installed 35%. I haven't tried it at night yet but seems much brighter in daylight. However when I got into the car and looked it looked like the new film wasn't completely flat on the glass and there was an effect not of actual bubbles but like wet glass. The sales woman said it will likely flatten out after some days in the sun but to return in 8 days if it doesn't. I'm dubious but ok will give it a chance. Anyone dealt with this?

While I was there I had them configure WAZE for me so should be good to go on that.

Wow, I'm surprised and a bit shocked that tinting the front windshield would be legal, or even advisable.
I can see wanting a 4 inch tint strip across the top, but full tint on the front glass is something I'm surprised is even allowed.
Certainly here in Canada it's a no no. In some provinces, even tint on the front side windows is illegal. Something about police not being able to see the driver when they approach the vehicle.
Thoughts?

The tinting of the windshield to 20% was completely legal or the dealership would't have done it. There are laws here on the books regulating the tinting of windows but so many people have put dark tinted film on their windows to make themselves invisible to the robbers that I think the regulations have been changed or are just overlooked by police.

I expected to see a flat badge with a radar set behind it. What Im seeing instead is the same front badge thats on North American vehicles that dont have adaptive cruise or AEB. Theres nothing new about it.

I wonder if proximity to the equator gives them more leeway in sun protection.

Of course, night is still night.

No mystery here. Obviously they've changed the emblem on Pitter's car. New for 20?

See how it has a transparent area from 2 to 10 o'clock. That must be where the cameras are now located, below rather than behind the chrome circle.

If you look at the steering wheel in his post here, he does not have the distance adjustment, but the regular cruise control from the base sport model without i-Activesense

Look again! Look below the shiny bits. :)

That could be.

Pitter, do you have the radar features? They would be listed on your sticker.

In any case, it is a different emblem from the one on my 17. It is different from the photos of the 19s on the website. And it is different from the ones on US cars without radar.

I haven't seen any other photos of 2020s than Pitter's. Has anyone?

The new cars here don't come with stickers identifying all the cars features like in the US. I'm not sure yet what all I have but definitely lane control as I felt it pulling on a recent drive. Dealer says I have cross traffic and front and rear automatic breaking.

Just out of curiosity, do you have a hard-copy manual?

That should tell you if you have any of those features.

They don't distinguish between models, however.

The website shows he is missing a lot of US features.

But one would think that the Signature has every feature shown in the regional manual.

Yes it came with a hard copy manual, about the size of a Bible.

Based on your front emblem and what your dealer says, it sounds like you have SCBS F and SCBS R, but not SBS. SBS and adaptive cruise control both use millimeter wave radar located in the emblem, while SCBS F uses a windshield mounted laser and SCBS R uses two ultrasonic sensors in the rear bumper. Since your car doesn't have adaptive cruise, it's safe to assume that it doesn't have a radar sensor (and thus, no SBS either).

Different markets have different configs.

EDIT: Sorry, the millimeter wave radar is located behind the emblem, not in it.

Interesting... It looks like the ADAS uses the radar for SBS, and the camera for SCBS. Pitter's car doesn't have radar, so it's lacking SBS (confirmed by the Mazda Colombia site) but it does have SCBS.

For those wondering also, it looks like it is indeed a "2020" according to their website, but I think their 2020 might be our 2019. The manual on their site is dated November 2018.

Back to the window tinting for a moment I did take ie it back to the dealer as suggested here. The dealer had provides 20 % tint on side and rear windows and I think even the windshield as it was hard to see on my way home in the dark. When I took it back they said well maybe 35 % would be better for visibility and had their window tint person (not with the dealership of course but contracted) change the film on the windshield to 35 %. All's well that ends well? No not quite. Driving away towards the late afternoon sun I found my self nearly blinded by the reflection of the sun off the windshield and even driving in any position where the windshield was in the sun the view was of sort of a pale gray haze. You could even see faint lines where a sponge or something had been passed over the film to hear it to the glass. I've had tinted windows in other cars and never had that effect. I knew something was wrong. So I took it back again and told them just take it off. There are a million hole in the wall places in Cali that offer window polarizing but looking on line I found a business that looked more reputable as they do apartment window and architectural glass tinting as well as automotive. I went by this morning and they were professional indeed. Had a special meter that could show the UV protection and other parameters of desired level of tint. I asked for their recommendation and was told if I wanted to drive safely at night the best option that would provide some UV etc. protection but also night time visibility for aged eyes would be a 55% tint. They installed it on the spot, only forty minute wait Ten year guarantee and American (not Chinese) materials. I told them about my experience at the dealer and the little short fat lady who does the tint installations and they said yes they knew who that installer was and many people complained about her. I asked if they do dealership work and they said no, typically three to four months before payment from the dealership for jobs performed.

Certainly shouldn't be the same issues in Canada or the US but here at least I now know that if I buy a new car I will not let the dealership toss in free tinting as it will probably be a cheap job badly done. Instead I will take the car home with clear windows and take it to a specialist later.
