2003 Supercharged Protege5
This is the turbo/supercharger tech section so I figured I'd post some supercharger info for you guys.

If you don't know I'm designing a custom supercharger for the 2.0L (1.8Ls should work as well) protege's. I'm using a Powerdyne BD-600 centrifugal supercharger and I wanted to post some info about this particular set-up so people could get a better idea of what it's capable of.

Hyperdyne Impeller

Powerdyne delivers substantial power increases over conventional centrifugal superchargers due to the unique Hyperdyne impeller. Featuring an exclusive curved-blade design that literally grabs air at low speeds, the Hyperdyne impeller generates low RPM boost levels that are unmatched by the competition. The airfoil shape and computermatched scroll combination provides more pressure and flow at comparable RPMs than any other centrifugal supercharger on the market.

SilentDrive Belt Drive

The same technology that drives the huge blowers on Top Fuel Dragsters and Funny Cars has been refined by Powerdyne to produce the only belt-driven centrifugal supercharger manufactured today. Utilizing the latest reinforced belts and precision machined drive pulleys, the patented SilentDrive system eliminates the annoying rattles, chattering, whine and reliability problems encountered with conventional gear-driven. superchargers

No Oil Lines! No Oil Reservoir!

With no drive gears to lubricate, SilentDrive eliminates the need to route oil from the engine or a separate tank to the supercharger, which vastly simplifies installation. The absence of hot engine oil allows Powerdyne superchargers to run cooler, thus reducing under-hood temperatures while providing a denser air/fuel charge for increased efficiency and maximum horsepower output.
http://www.powerdyne.com/silentdr.htm

Powerdyne superchargers are unique by way of the Silentdrive patented internal belt drive system that eliminates tapping into the engine oil system for lubrication as required on gear-driven superchargers. In addition, Powerdyne's advanced Hyperdyne impeller delivers more bottom end torque and overall horsepower than conventional designs. The result is a cooler running and more efficient power system that delivers unmatched performance and reliability without the annoying gear noise.

As I get more concrete numbers I'll be sure to post them here and in the dyno section for everyone.

bump. I hope between this info and my videos this will help enlighten people to some of the new stuff being made for us 2.0L (and 1.8's)

Matty, can you give us a rough idea of when you think you might have your kit fully developed and ready to go? Ive planned on buying a HiBoost kit for some time now, but for reasons beyond my control the cash I had put aside for my turbo has been torn from my grasp. Im going to have to re-generate those funds over the next few months. Im hoping I'll be able to consider your kit as a tangible alternative when Im ready to buy again.

Gavin, I'm really at the mercy of the other people i'm working with. As soon as they put everything back in my hands It should take me no longer than 2 weeks to be done and on the road. I was really hoping to be dyno'd and tuned by christmas but I don't see that happening. Look to see the official numbers just after new year.

Chris, I'm sure you would! There's a lot of stuff you've got I'd like to "take for testing" also!

he hasn't been able to find the time to make the small changes yet. His machines are tied up. Hopefully it won't be much longer.

I'm curious to see this too. Many companies with millions of $$ for R&D and no one has done this yet...you are a hero Rod. A true pioneer (cool)

I would still like to see HP numbers for this thing.
Just wait. I've been waiting for a while to see how this puppy does...

The Area 51 kit didn't do so well, we'll see how this one does. I think the change in the blower will make a difference. But overall, just have to wait to see what happens.

I'm STILL waiting to hear back from DaveB. As soon as I get everything back from him I'll be able to test the belt tension in the upper rpm's with a quality Gates belt. Previously, (in my videos), it wasn't revved over 4500rpms due to belt slippage. This should be corrected now and not an issue.

Once I verify that it won't slip or experience belt walk then I'll have everything permanently mounted and the Haltech tuned.

Juan from HiBoost has offered to help me tune the haltech for this application and it's just a matter of getting with him to do so. He's in Florida and I'm in Alabama. Shouldn't be too hard!

p.s. The Area 51 kit was garbage for a few reasons. Their blower was so large it obstructed the header/exhaust, mine does not. Their blower required oil lines be tapped for cooling, mine does not. Their blower required removal of the powersteering system, mine removes the AC...it's much more liveable. I'm not a major corporation so I don't have the same high overhead that Area51 did. I can charge less and still make money. The power levels should be similar between the two with mine making slightly more power and MUCH better afr's. Their kit used NO ems...none.

p.s. I just now had time to read the 4 pages of garbage added to my thread by Protito and N20civic....

I should go on the record as saying I had to ban these two ass-clowns from protegeclub.com instigating/fighting/name-calling. It's sad though that they couldn't take a warning and drop it and discuss things maturely. So I banned them (after 3 requests from different members) and left their posts up so people would know why. At protegeclub we have a set of rules that we adhere to and that is that. If you play by the rules and get along with everyone you stay. If you fight and argue and name-call then you go. It's very straightforward.

Now, here we are on ANOTHER forum with more name calling. You guys have NO life to be sitting on your computers on CHRISTMAS and calling me out. It's really sad. I feel bad for you....here's a fruitcake.

I read through those 4 pages of crap and picked out a few things I think you guys wanted answers on:

#1. Heatsoak: If you knew the difference between turbochargers and superchargers (specifically self-contained centrofugal blowers) you would know that a turbo charger is bolted directly to a 1200* manifold and through osmosis (iirc) it heats up the compressor housing. This causes 99% of all high intake temps in a turbo. My blower is not connected to the header, it is several inches away fro ma direct heat source and it is in a WIDE open space with plenty of ventilation. As for the charge piping picking up heat you can't possibly claim to know that when I've not posted any pics about what it'll even look like. I will say that it will run 90* from the blower along the bottom rim of the radiator. I did this because the air flowing over the radiator will come in and up as removed not in and down where the piping will be. Besides....do you honestly think that the air from a radiator at 50mph is going to be sitting stationary long enough to affect the charge piping? That's just stupid. If you have seen under my hood you know there is a large space on the driversside where the air will be drawn in from and it is not near ANY heat source. In fact it's in the EXACT same location as every turbo kit I've ever seen for any fs-de protege. How is mine worse than theirs?? It's not.

#2. This kit is for "looks" only. Wow, you guys have really spent the time to read over my posts. I've said from the begining that I like turbos and I know that turbo's HAVE THE POTENTIAL to make more peak power. I've never tried to hide this. What I have said is that I'm designing a kit to increase driveability throughout the powerband. That is what a centrifugal supercharger does. Since it's power is based on rpm's you make more boost/pull the higher you rev it. Similar to how a larger v6/v8 feels. I don't think there is anything "show-only" about cramming 600cfm into a 2.0L engine. If you knew anything about me you'd know I'm all go and no show.

#3. Cost vs Turbo. My goal was to have reliable boost with quality EMS make "similar to turbo" power for a "less than turbo" price tag. I know Wagner's and HiBoost's turbo kits are both in the $3600 range right now...including fmic (and HiBoost's includes the same Haltech controller I do). I'm not sure about MAM's...he's doing a "budget kit" or something but I don't know how complete it is. If their kit's are $3600+shipping and Mine is $2600+shipping and we both make similar power how is mine more expensive? I know you argue that I won't make similar power but I think you'll just have to get over it. Even the huge turbo supporters here can't argue with the fact that it'll make power. You can hate me all you want but you can't logic/physics/facts.

I'm sure I'm leaving out stuff from your oh-so-intellectual rantings but everything you've TRIED to discredit me about has already been discussed in great detail.

congratulations on being banned from this forum as well Protito! 2 forums in less than a week.

No Matty, I think you banned me b/c I brought up some good points about you and you had nothing to say. So you banned me. If you look up all my posts, the only one that I had any problems in was the post about "civic ex vs. protege." I was simply defending the Honda name, kinda like you guys do with Mazda. Nothin wrong with that. I brought some good points to the table and you felt...I dunno...trapped? So instead of PM'ing me and asking me to just leave it alone. You had to try and be the cool guy in front of your sheep and ban me. That's where Linux takes the cake...he's professional. I can respect that guy. Here's my final post before you banned me...which I still have heard no response about.

I stated on my very first post that I was here to help a friend. Protito being that friend. So far you've been little to no help Rod. I've noticed that when someone brings up modifying their car to make it faster, you like to s*** in their cheerios and bring up some negative feedback. Then, when I asked what you knew about extrude honing the IM and p&p the head, you didn't respond to it, you just suggested someone to try doin it to their car. WTF.

All you support is Haltech...what, do you get some money everytime you mention that name?
If you aren't praising Haltech, then you are praising this "WOMP." I wanna see this damn super-charger that you made in action.
For a moderator...pushing 104whp...but a self-proclaimed "protege god"....I sure as s*** wouldn't trust any forced induction you offered me.
Anyone can read posts from other sites and repost them in their own words.
You say you spotted protito and I showing up at the same time like you are some detective breaking a case wide open.
I think you are a fluke Rod. I've read a lot of what you have to say, and it all seems like it was copied, or spoon-fed. No genuine knowledge coming from you.

n2099civicsi: i really do not understand why u are here, 6:55am and you are still attempting to discredit a member trying to help a community. It's just an internet forum, some place to exchange knowledge and further the aftermarket. 40+ posts and you still havent really added anything to the community. I would personally love to see this SC in action. Although i do not have a mazda, i am a HUGE fan of the mazda mp3, and am still trying to make enough money to own one. A supercharger kit for the FS-DE would be something I would consider purchasing if i decide that i can afford it and the car.

I know i have like 0 posts, that's because i mainly browse the forums and advance my own understanding of these cars (protege 5, mp3, and mazdaspeed). When people like you come here and just start trouble, it does nothing to benefit the overall community. So in conclussion, if u have nothing constructive to say, please go to the off topic forum, that way it does not impair my learning.

Thank you

How about you look at my previous posts. I have contributed useful information on quite a few occasions. Using this website I've learned quite a bit about Protege's and I still enjoy spending time here. I would love to see this SC in action myself. Your concern with me being here has touched me, but as a fellow member of this site, I have every right to post questions and concerns. So please PM me next time.

Thank you

I'll tell you what. I'll leave Matty alone about the womp until it arrives. But like everyone else around ANY forum, if I feel like bringing up questions or voicing my opinion. I will.

Ya hear that Matty? I'll leave you alone 'til your project is up and running. But I still want answers.

that's fine, but make your own thread doing it.

challenging/questioning something is healthy, but youre going about it totally in the wrong way

wipe your own ass before you try to wipe anyone elses

All you did was a ruin a completely good thread with flaming by making extra accounts to flame more. If you were a concerned customer you would have posted all your thoughts and questions in one post and waited for matty to respond instead of making a new post for every new question. As I remember it one of your first posts was a flame and when people who knew about the kit tried to tell you nicely that you were wrong you just made more posts with your 3 accounts and flamed more. Just like in this thread, matty made a very long post explaining all the key points you brought up yet you are still calling him out like hes some hack trying to rip everyone off. I personally havent seen anyone more dedicated to a project on this forum than matty and I think you should show him some more respect for the time and money he has put in.

LOL...3 accounts...maybe you didn't read them, so you don't understand why it looked that way. One Navy ship...one T1 cable for the internet...one IP address...4 people in one room...4 computers.

I am being a nice guy and leaving this alone, but you guys insist on adding on? *shakes his head*

Yeah, I flamed. I argued the subject just like I'm entitled. I'm not in a race to get more posts than anyone. As I thought of something and read more crap, then I posted. Whoopity Doo. Sure, I used potty mouth words. A lot of closed mindedness from the Mazda peeps brought me to do that. *shrug* My time arguing with you guys is done on this subject. If you still wanna discuss this with me, lets just use the PM.

Thanks

n2o99civicsi, this really doesn't belong in this thread. You need to make your own thread in the appropriate section (probably the dumpster), these post of yours will be deleted.
