Wireing boost gauge

I have a light in my boost gauge where is the safest place to hook it up and how can anyone tell me? I was going to go to the alarm light but those wires are tiny and I wasnt sure that I could get away with that
but when I read the directions they say tap into the dash lights so you can control the amount of lighting SOME ONE HELP ME! lol (help)
 
if u tap into any light wires (the tiny ones), i would use a relay. this way u wont smoke your wires, the light on wire (the one you tap into) will just be used for signal and not to power the light. hope that helps a bit. if i think of it ill take pics of mine after work.
 
I got the power from that dimmer switch and grounded at the fuse box. It may work for you.

its so easy. say u want your boost gauge light to come on when you turn your headlights on. run the gauge wire(through the wire harness boot on the fire wall under the drivers side) to the fuse box under the hood and find the fuse for your headlight(should say h light or something like it). take the fuse out take the wire put it over the metal part of the fuse and stick the fuse back in. its that easy. when you turn your lights on the gauge will light up. its the best way to do it if your not good at splicin.
 
Take the plastic plate under the steering wheel off. Just pull hard. Find the white plastic wire connector to the left side as seen in the picture.

Here is a close up. I believe the green wire with black stripe will get 12VDC when you turn your parking lights on. If thats not it, it is one of the other green wires. Use a multimeter. It was a while ago that I installed my neons, if my car was here I could go verify this for you. Good luck.

Best way to do it, turn your parking lights on and ground the multimeter. I always use the hole in the support bar that holds the door open. (between the door and the frame) It is a good ground point that keeps the multimeter probe 'pinched' into place. Once you have your ground, poke around at the connectors. Once you find 12VDC, turn off the parking lights and see if the multimeter drops. That is your wire.
I still think its the green and black wire seen in the front middle of the second picture. I like to tap these wires because if you leave your parking lights on there is a buzzer when you get out of the car. This way I cannot leave my accessories on either.
 
As Far as wire gauges, Can I use like a smaller wire? or larger wire? Should I sodder? what connectors are the best to use? I am a wireing nooobiieeee
 
Bringing this thread back because I feel I have the best solution for wiring, although of course this is my opinion. First, you buy a terminal strip from Radio Shack. Then what I did was run power and ground to the first two pins on a side, and then alternate all the way down to distribute power to every other terminal, and ground to every other terminal. Then I wired my radar detector, gauges, turbo timer power, etc to the terminal strip. It really cleaned up the wiring in my other car, and I plan on doing the same with my Lancer. Here is a diagram as well:
 
i popped out where the dash dimmer switch and spliced in the constant 12V power. this way, your gauge lights up when you turn on your parking lights. it doesn't dim the gauge (still dims your gauge cluster), but i like it on full brightness anyways.
 
subscribed. I've had my boost gauge in for a few months and never got around ot wiring the light up. (freak)
 
Well, I am assuming this, but will confirm after the weekend install. The white bulb wire goes to the green wire on the dimmer switch, while the black bulb wire goes to the white wire on teh dimmer switch (you could also swap those, doesn't really matter). That should work, but I'll confirm with a multimeter tonight.

Well, I didn't wire it up because I was going to return it. I don't think it reads boost accurately. But I could never confirm it, and it's too lat eto send back now. Yeah, I'm lazy. I have absolutely no ambition.

Yeah when I had a boost gauge on the car I never got around to wiring the light for the same reason, gauge was off. Now the gauge is sitting in my room ;\
