winter/snow tire recommendation

Hopefully the blizzaks have improved a lot in the last few years. I had them for my last car and they were the worst tires I've ever bought. Just no traction at all in snow and ice! They're as good winter tires as the oem Mazda5 Toyo proxies a18's. Yes, they're that bad! I'm using Pirelli winter carving. And they have been the best winter tire I've ever owned, they do make the mazda5 feel a but bulky and truck like! But if you can find them, they are amazing!

My two euros... I'm from Texas and never had to buy snow tires before but at the beginning of 2012, Rome got the biggest dump of snow in 30 years. BTW, it never snows in Rome and we received about two or three feet. Imagine a crowded European city, not prepared for snow. Side note, the Italian ladies still wore high heels. No joke. I digress. We were required (by law) to buy snow tires or chains. You can imagine the instant panic and run on chains, so I was left with buying a new set of rubber. Given my location, I ended up with a set of Pirelli SottoZero IIs. Furthermore, we had a ski trip planned the next week to Germany. We drove the entire way, through three snow covered countries and the Alps, in the Mz5 like we were on performance summer tires. They work as advertised! Also, I believe they are designed for sports cars. I was parked next to a Bentley at the lodge with the same tires.
