Wine with dinner?

I'm making dinner tonight for the girlfriend and she likes to drink wine, so I figure I'll pick some up while I'm out. I was gonna make some spaghetti because its relatively easy to make, but I'm not sure what else to prepare (side dishes, appetizers, etc), any suggestions on that and the wine?

For wine choices I would recomend Pinochio (sp?), barefoot, louis jadot (pronounced louie jadoe), or knarley head. All these are good reds with a smooth flavor without a lot of bite.

Yeah, i was gonna do garlic bread and salad for sure, but those seem like 'cop out' side dishes. haha i kinda want to have one more that i have to actually prepare. do green beans go with spaghetti?

she doesnt like cheesecake, i think i'll just pick up a small thing of coffee ice cream.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Side should be a salad. Spaghetti is kind of a one course meal, so to speak.

Romaine lettuce, tomato, cucumber slices, olive oil Italian dressing.

Hopefully you add some vegetables to your spaghetti, you will be surprised. Mushrooms, large stewed tomato chunks, maybe some peppers.

The wine should be red.

What about good ole fashioned meatballs or some sausage? Dazzle her with your meatballs and sausage! (evil)

Good call on the vegetables. Do green and red peppers work well?

Yes, they work fine.

You can put the green and red peppers with sliced mushrooms (4 slices per mushroom so they aren't too thin). White onions and garlic optional - I love them.

Put them all in a frying pan and saute' with a little olive oil and water to soften them up a little bit.

If you are cooking the sauce for a long time, you can put them in there raw.

Don't forget some basil and oregano. Not too much though.

You can pick up the breassticks at most markets that sell fresh bread. They should be easy to find. Just pour a little extra virgin olive oil on a deep plate and add some oregano and/or basil.
