windshield wiper sizes

Driver 22"
Passenger 19"
Hatch 14"

Good luck finding a replacement for the hatch blade though. Mazda seems to use a unique adapter to attach the blade to the arm. No aftermarket blade I've come across has the adapter.

Anyone with a 3 want to come by my house or office? Ive got the piaa adapter kits and they have 6 different style connectors, we could see if on of them would work. Of course in replacement blades the smallest they currently offer is a 15" which might fit, wed have to try, but if it does, ill hook everyone up with great prices on the set of 3 blades

The hatch wiper blade assembly is a unique design and only available from Mazda.

HOWEVER

The rubber portion of the blade is a standard design. It's possibly to disassemble the blade and replace the wiper with a standard aftermarket refill. Since there are no springs to wear out of metal parts to bend, there's no reason to give Mazda $20 for that wiper blade.

whenever i replace just the rubber part it ends up falling apart on me.

Sounds like you might be using the wrong type of refills if this is happening. I've replaced quite a few refills in my day, never had this happen.

Refills work better with some blades than with others.

Just love how my mazda book says that the wind shield washer blades are 21 and 19, not 22 and 19. lol

Sounds like somebody at Mazda had a defective tape measure. I actually went out and measured the ones on our 5 door, and I can assure you it's definately 22".

the manual has no info in it.. just checked.. but i also just measured and it's

D: 21"
P: 19"
R: 14"

maybe your measuring tape is faulty :p

Adapter won't work (at least I couldn't get any to work). The arm is recessed into the blade, so any adapters just get in the way.

Majic, if you measure the drivers side blade again, you will see it actually measures about 21 1/2". I have already replaced both of my front blades and can say with 100% certain that a 22" blade fits on the drivers side and works as good if not better than the 21" or 21 1/2" blade does.

sure, i won't dispute that the 22" works well, a few www.torontomazda3.com members have used them and they work like a charm.. but when i measured it was 21".. maybe in usa you get different blades? (dunno) (cheers)

i just bought a 21 and a 19 inch blade from auto zone. i compared the 21 inch blade i bought to the drivers side blade on the car and they are the exact same size.

Since it's raining here today, I was thinking about this on the way to work today.

Seems I read on this forum that some people have had trouble with the wipers making contact with each other and destroying themselves.

It also seems to me that a longer wiper blade on the driver's side would increase the chances of this happening.

Just a thought.

The only way that can happen is if the nut holding the arm to the shaft loosens causing the arm to move out of alignment. It has happened to the drivers side arm of our 5 door already (which is why I had to replace them), but it's nothing that a dab of locktite won't fix. A slightly longer blade on the drivers side is no more likely than a shorter blade to contact the other blade provided the arms stay in alignment.

Fair enough.

Still... I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Just bought new wipers today:

Trico Teflon 21" and 18"... regular trico 14" for the hatch wiper...

The teflons are amazing in terms of wiping stuff off, and they did replace the bosche relatively well... Fanagling the replacement into the rear hatch took a bit of doing: the trico wipers had the two peices of metal on either side of the rubber wiper... and the original wiper had the stiffening metal band inside the rubber, the trico's were also about a 1/2" longer than the original brand, so the wiper was in a bit snug.

i know i am bringing this post back from the dead but yesterday while driving i had the 21 and 19 inch blade make contact with each other so bad that i couldn't use my wipers.
