I noticed today that my windshield crack. It is just one big long crack. There is no showing of a rock chip and it happened all of a sudden. Will Mazda warranty this?

They should! I no there are a few people on here that have had the same thing happen to them not sure if mazda covered it though

doubtfull , if it took over a year to crack i wouldnt call that a defect . could of happened
from a number of things

a windshield should not crack out of the blue. i can understand if a rock hit it but there is no spider crack whatsoever.

How long have you had your car because they might use that as a factor? The crack looks like it actually branched off. A rock will not usually cause a crack to look like that. It may very well be a defect or some other object that caused it.

Worse case scenario = car insurance will cover it. Sometimes free of charge or you may have to pay a $50 deductable. Check with your local speed mechanic about it being a defect, then check with your insurance agent about your coverage. I would not mention it possibly being a "defect". If you find that the dealer will not cover it, tell the agent it was a rock. lol

I've had the car for a year. The crack is just one long crack. It doesn't have any spider cracks from where a rock would hit. I'm gonna get them to look at it this week. I know there are other speed owner's that have had the same problem.

Thankfully I haven't had that problem. But of course there's those hidden squeeks and crunches... lol Like I said, doesn't look like a rock or anything. Just a really odd split on there. I've never seen a crack like that before. Good luck with it man, let us know what goes on.

If they can't find a rock chip and you are still within warranty they should do it. I had mine replaced for the same problem under warranty.

Take a ball point pen and run it up and down the crack if it stops anyplace then something hit the windshield (when I had my mazda6 and the windshield cracked thats what they did at the dealership because i thought it was stress fracture, sure enough at the very bottom of the windshield it dipped and we could then see where the rock hit, called insurance company and they fixed it the next day with no deductible. Thats the law here in FL at least).

i did this and there is no point where anything was hit with a rock or object. it is clearly a stress crack

mine got a stress crack when i got it and i got it replaced under warrenty the big problem is a mazda rep has to approve glass replacement

I got to school at 1:00 car was fine, came out at 5:00 crack half way across my window.

they did the pen test, and sure enough the pen hit.but if you look at were it hit,it's not cuase of impact it's cause when you brake glass it sometimes chips.

on the other side of my window you can se a impact, but it's not cracked or spiderwebbed.

and no mazda didn't replace it.

Yeah, same thing happened to me. Just found a crack all the sudden one day. Mazda would not replace it. There is a spot where it is chipped, and I was thinking the same thing about how glass tends to chip when it breaks.

your insurance should replace it for free..mine did
my insurances doesn't have free windsheild replacement :( who do you have anyways?

edit: its a Florida thing (its their law)...

alan around here state farm is the only one that I've heard does it for free. did Blue Ridge not get it taken care of?

I got mine done last week for $220 with taxes, no deduct or insurance up at a place in downtown (but they also have an OP place)...

apparently its a stress crack from the design of the body/chassis but Mazda isn't covering the majority of it (this is what a Mazda serv rep I know told me after I explained what had happened; mine was in a parking lot on new year's eve and I was in the car when it popped)
