Will these tires fit on my car?

Hi,

I have a set of winter tires that are barely used that came off my accord.

The tires are 195/60/R15

My current protege's tires are 195/50/R16.

I know I will need to get some steel rims for the tires from my accord, but will I have any problems using these tires. I understand that these tires are about 1" bigger.

Thanks for the help!

EDIT: I have an 2003 Protege 5 Hatchback.

EDIT 2 (lol): My car is a manual and I can compensate for the slower speed.

ya know they won't drive as well as your 16's will right????

edit: your speed won't really be much of an issue since the wall will be thicker you'll have about the same diameter

No, they will be taller by a decent amount 195/50 versus 195/60. The question is, why do you want to go to a larger tire so your speedometer is off, the handling is worse and you run the risk of rubbing?

Hi

I'm running 205/55/16 on my P5 with no rubbing, so you should have no trouble with the smaller 195/60/15's.

To answer the question of the poster who asked why, besides the obvious that he has a good set of snows you get more load carrying per tire and the ride is a bit softer. I bought my P5 because I needed a car I could fit my musical eqpt in. I'm an old fart so I don't push my P5 too hard in the handling dept, so the trade off made sense, and works for me. It's all in what you need and want.

^^^ What all do you carry? I've had 200+ pounds of bass equipment in the back of my lowered P5 and everything was fine. Two bass guitars, a Gallien-Krueger stack (two cabs and a head) and all the supporting equipment. Sure, the rear end sagged a little but nothing rubs. The only time I get rubbing is with three people in the back (~450 lbs) but that's just because the offset of my wheels puts the tires too close to the inner fender liners.

actually it has to do with tire load ratings, not necessarily rubbing. The lower the aspect ratio the less a tire can carry safely. There was a piece on one of the news shows a while back where a lot of cars and SUV's come with tires that can't handle the weight with like 4 people and luggage. Going from a 195/50 to a 205/55 adds on average 200+ lbs. per tire or an extra 800-1000 lbs total.

My kit is probably a bit lighter then yours. 2 basses 2 cabs, a head, 2 amp stands and a couple bags of cables etc is the max I'll carry, most of the time it's only 1 cab, the lighter of the 2. If you haven't already check out talkbass, a great bassist's forum, lots of good info there.
