The rim will extend out another 1.5 inches, not counting what further extension will be caused by the larger tire size width....you will need some major fender modification particularly in the back.
 
I saw rims like these in my area on Craigslist. I also thought about doing 18x9's but even if the offset is 45 or 48, it sure will rub in the rear even with 225/40's or 235/40's stock or lowered. I think it'd look bad ass though. Mazda and their wack offset....
 
idk but im a believer. maybe roll the rear fenders and stretch the tires like the euros. just buy 225-235's to stretch them. people always say it wont fit but nobody ever tries. i remember when everyone said 18x8.5 and 18x9 wouldnt fit and that +40 is too low blah blah blah. but yea like i said i think you can do it. btw ive been running 18x8.5 +40's in the rear with a 235/40/18 lowered on h&r's with no rubbing for more than a year. thinking about going 245's next.
