Will Not Be Getting Another CX7

well I jump right into the lake and we got a GT and was curious to see that '08 are using 87 octane.

Premium is still recommended for the best performance, but the '08 ecu has better control over knock prevention from the lower octane. I would still get the good stuff...

epa is never real world...everyone drives so differently....i remember when they first started posting epa estimates back in the early 70's...everyone thought that was what they would get...boy were they disapointed!

Well the CX7 is now parked on the side of the house and will set pretty much untouched until November. Now that the warm weather is here, I'm driving the MX5 and will not be looking back. Come November, I'll pay the last two payments on the lease and pick up a Mazda 3.

With gas prices hitting $3.70 now a gallon here, that puts the monthly fuel costs at around $325 a month now for the CX7 I've now termed "The Brick".

Ya know, the problem for me isn't that it's a gas hog... it's that my driving habits have changed, and I did not anticipate that when I bought the car. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my CX-7 with a passion, but the gas is killing me... especially now that I'm back and forth much further and more often than I thought I would be.

Sadly enough, I've actually been thinking about selling it while I can still get a decent amount for it...

You certainly can't go wrong with a Mazda 3.

I just don't get it......
Cars never get what the EPA says and even a casual look on the internet will tell you this vehicle doesn't get good gas mileage.
Yet, people claim ignorance and gripe about about the gas mileage. Not just here, but all over forums in general with other cars too.
That being said, I agree that the CX-7 SHOULD get better gas mileage for a 4 banger and premium fuel exacerbates the frustration of owning the car.

Actually Hondas typically get exactly the mileage on the sticker or even better in my experience. Most other makes get worse mileage than EPA estimates... You can't have it all, if you want a car that gets 25-30mpg you need to get a CR-V which only has 168 hp...it is a tradeoff. More power=fun but worse mileage. Weight is also a huge factor in mpg's.

I've had 3 Hondas run through my family. I didn't find that they got any closer or further from the EPA estimates then any other cars.

Mpg

Florida car here GT AWD with a snatch hair over 11K on it and have never gotten more than 14.8MPG city. Hell the highway MPG is around 17. I have run this baby almost bone dry as well, and it will hold 18 gals of fuel. I pumped just about exactly 18gals into it myself. So I have time and again calculated the MPG from an almost dry tank and its a consistant 14.6-14.8MPG every time. Im hoping it gets better with higher mileage. Im not gonna break out the crying towel though like most. Heck it a 4000+ pound vehicle powered by a 4 banger. (flame2)

Not a single Honda I've owned has been any more accurate in regards to the estimated fuel economy. For the record I've owned an '00 Civic, '02 RSX Type S, '01 S2000, '04 S2000 and '06 CSX.

I hear there are some 7,000lb Yukons comming out pretty soon that are hybrid
and will get better gas mileage than a cx7.

I love the 3s as well, but I need the ground clearance and AWD offered by the CX-7. If my budget were tighter & I drove more, I might weigh it differently, but I am happy pay the extra in gas to have the style and joy of driving the CX-7 as opposed to something tamer like the CR-V.

I've got one of each. :D

Buy a HYBRID if you gonna whine about the fuel, it depends on how you drive it, when my wife drives the vehicle its awesome on fuel, when i drive it it gets worse mileage then my 300C SRT8.

my advice would be to move to california since all we do out here is drive on freeways, i dont make a daily commute but travel for work, i get close to 20 miles a gallon because im not on overcongested city streets all day...

Oil prices are tanking lets hope it keeps going down, tell that T boone pickens guy to shut the hell up as he keeps predicting to wall street talk shows that oil will hit 120 a barrell....

So far driving my MX5 the last couple of weeks, I have been getting around 350 miles on 10 gallons of gas, and smiling the entire time with the top down. The only thing I miss on the CX7 is the NAV and the MP3 player.

MX5 is nice. congrats. Of course cx-7 is in a different market segment. If gas money is what you care about, a smaller car like MX5 will definitely make you happy. In that regards, I think mazda3 wagon is actually the best trade-off. not too big, and not too small either. Too bad, wife dislikes the tail of the 3 for some reason, she adores our cx-7.

I had my CX-7 in for some more warranty work last week so I took out a PRHT MX-5 6 MT for a quick test drive... great car!

Really fun to drive, surprisingly a lot quicker than I expected it to be.
