I was reading the thread earlier about one of the forum members that got his MSP stolen by some s*** eatin' thief and I was wondering how much a target the MSP will continue to be. After all, there are only 2000 of them in circulation so there won't be shady auto shops looking for the parts (like an Accord, Camry, Cutlass, etc. where there's 10 billion of them around) and the cars themselves stick out like a sore thumb (namely the orange) and lots of the parts have MSP only type s*** on them like the interior pieces, exhaust tip, rims, etc. I'd be curious to know what the rest of you think because to me it just doesn't seem like a financially viable to car for pro thiefs to take.......unless they're just doing a joy ride and ditching.

Its the perfect car to be targeted. Even if the parts say MSP on them, you can buy most of the stuff from the dealer, so ther market is EXTREMY high, even for shady garages to sell outright.

Ohhh dont forget about ebay too.

actually, i dont think they stole the MSP for parts. sorry thats just lame.. and mostly cars like this are stolen for joy ride purposes, some kid that wants to know what the car can do b4 he goes and get one for himself.. happens alot were i used to live in knoxville. Like this lady the is a radio station dj got her toyota mr2 spider stolen.. the next day it was parked right were she had left it.. no apparent damage. Sept that additional 500 miles. And later on a kid confessed to just stealing it for the purposes of joy riding. He was considering buying one of his own, and just wanted to check it out. This isn't all uncommon. Happens alot.. Half the time the cars are recovered undamaged. Sometimes there maybe a cd player or something stolen or cd's stuff thats laying inside the car. Alot of times things like this are done for College Initiations. Not all ppl that steal cars are actually wanting to take to a chop shop. I dont See the msp being so rare that someone would want to steal it to have it shipped overseas for some gone in 60 seconds action. I'd see more ppl breaking into a p5, mp3, or msp more for the purpose of stealing something out of it, not the whole car.

oh and if someone steals my msp, good thing i got insurance they can have it and all of its problems.. Don't get me wrong i love my car, but if it gets stolen i wont cry over it. I'll let the insurance company cut me a nice check, plus all the things i have pictures of that i have baught for it, and i'll just take all that money and buy sumfin else.

The ECU in the MSP is very valuable to N/A P5 and Sedan guys.

They can use that ECU for turbo applications.

Kinda like a type R ECU for any B16A HonDuhhh!!!

I'm getting A Boomerang system!

lol... not really that usefull when it can be reflashed by stealing the right stufff from the mazda dealer ;op

there are two big motives to steal cars.
Joyride
Parts.... Even if it is a low production car if someone out there is lookin for parts then a chop shop will fill there order with a stolen car... Then there is the forign market. I know that a few years ago SUV"S and trucks in California were taken across the border for sale and parts not in Mexico but South America. Columbia was a big market for stolen SUV"S. It is probly still true...

my whole point was that there's only 2000 MSP's in the whole country so there can't be that many people waiting to get MSP parts that it would be worth stealing one. I mean in my area here (to my knowledge) there's only like 2-3 MSP's floating around....no shady garage is gonna give a s*** about having parts for the MSP. Anywhere there's an MSP there's probably an Accord, Camry, or Explorer close by and I don't see them choosing the MSP unless they're joy riding. As far as exporting, I don't think the MSP is special enough performance wise that people in other countries would put out a gank order....they'd be going for EVO's and STI's. But I could be wrong in all this cuz I'm not a piece of s*** thief so I dunno what they're thinking :)

If the motive was parts- it would make sense that one of your fellow MSP owners is in search of parts, either crashing or just f'ing something up. Plenty of people drive without insurance. Also seeing as how there are more and more on the road each day....

And you never know what a "joyride" may qualify as...talking about some pretty low-lived people here with '87 civics :)

You guys are thinking only MSP people would want the parts- what about the other million protege owners out there :)? I'd think they would want the parts more than the MSP owner. Not saying Protege owners are theives (have to cover your ass whenever you say something here :) ), but the parts would be very desireable to them.

If it were a joy ride, they usually turn up in a few days- only insurance jobs and chop shop cars never show up again :).. Actually, someone stole my Grand AM GT (of all the cars to steal why a Grand AM????) and it was found a year and a half later in Patterson, NJ sitting on a side street!!! The fuckers were driving it for a while and then just left it there....

Please someone tell this to the people in Ocean City for me. That person you were reading about was me that had their MSP stolen. Yes it most likely was a joy ride at first then the saw my parts and thought "....s*** i alreay have the car why not make some money off it...." one thing comes to another and here i am a few months down the road still waiting on delivery of my Silver MSP. (The titanium was not the best color IMO so I am going for the silver or Blue) Moral of this story is dont put say people will not steal anything or not do something as there is alwas a chance it might just happen.

u got ur car stolen in ocean city? hrm.. okay. i live not to far from there.
