Why so much hype about Mazda2 weight?

For me personally the 2 is perfect for me. I needed a car that was good on gas, fun to drive, practical and affordable. The car is all that and more, sure it's not the fastest car at 100hp. But it definitely isn't sluggish by any means. I didn't even look at a fit, yaris, versa, fiesta or anything else in it's class. For the price and all the amenities, none of the competitors could beat the 2.
