Why I'm starting to HATE my Mp5

the proper way to use the AC when it's hot outside:

-start car
-keep sunroof and shade closed
-open all windows
-make sure switch is set to fresh air, not recirculate
-make sure temperature setting is set to cold and not hot
-turn on AC full blast...to main (top) vents only...not the defrost, not the feet, not a combination of either
-drive around
-once cool air is coming in, close all windows
-wait a few minutes, then change switch from fresh air to recirculate
-adjust fan speed to whatever you please

keep in mind that the car will be sluggish initially, but once your temperature gauge is in its normal operating range, expect the car to operate normally (with the AC on)

don't expect your car to be a speed demon when the AC compressor is running...it's a pretty big draw.

don't expect your car's interior to stay cold if you don't have the air set to recirculate - you're only forcing your compressor to do more work if it's not recirculating the cold air.

USE A WINDSHIELD SUNSHADE whenever you park in the open - ambient temperatures are a few degrees cooler when you use a windshield sunshade.

Gerard seriously, do you think I'm a f@#king tard??? I know how car AC works and I know when mine malfunctions... and your 'proper way to use AC when it's ot outside' is not only obvious but pretty silly if you ask me. I've seen people complain about the AC on this board before so it's a known issue. Also, I just took a drive about an hour ago and about 15 minutes into it guess what decided it did'nt want to work anymore? That's right, the AC stopped blowing out cold air for about 5 minutes before it decided to start working again. This is regardless of what I did to the temp, vent, window, and AC on/off button settings. Perhaps you should come up with a 'proper way to use the AC when it decides to stop working' method which I'm sure would be much more beneficial to P5 owners on this board.

Actually it's much easier...

1. turn the car on...
2. switch ac on...
3. hit the recirculate button...

This is why I love stick - Instant Gratification.

As for the AC, I agree w/grishulia.

You poor guy...no love lost here. Yeah the civic si is a far more expensive car than the P5....I looked at it , saw the price, and moved on. I love this forum - honesty you will get!

I have a sport matic and race all the time (autox) and I can drive the doors off most manuals! yes I shifts a tid bit slower that a stick but A GOOD DRIVER can look beyond the hood and PLAN a head. By the time you push the clutch in and shift a stick its all about the same shift time +- a tenth. so pull your head up and drive. odds are if you were looking up you would have seen the other car and avoided them. Even if they can't drive. sorry go back to school

Do you have your windows tinted?
It makes a lot of different for the inside temperature of the car before and after I tinted my P5. I now only need to use the lostest fan level for the A/C to make my car cool.

The only thing that will make me hate my P5 is the speeding tickets I keep getting after I bought this car.

:D :p

i'm not gonna bash u guy, but, ive wouldnt have got an auto anything.

and seriously, if i had the choice to get my MP5 or another car, i would have never gotten the Mazda.

but i guess it could be worse

While i was driving i saw Subaru WRXs, one silver STi, two 350zs, honda civic hatchback... I realized all these cars must be hella better than my car... :o

Well a Porsche or BMW or RX-8 or lots of other way more expensive cars might be faster then a P5 with an auto. So trade it in, re-mortgage the house and go get one. As far as the civic hatchback goes, I don't think so.

First off, road rage is bad...
there are bad drivers on the road, suck up and deal with it.

Second, buy a stick...any car is twice as responsive and twice as fun to drive if it is manual...do you think the drivers of the WRXs, STi and 350zs were driving automatics?

isn't waynetek's avatar bijou's girlfriend? i don't get it. do you guys know each other?

This is true...but I drive my P5 for work and drive an average of 50 miles a day in city traffic etc...so I chose the automatic....I drive too damn much in city traffic....but as I have mentioned before, I have a miata for weekend driving! The P5 is just so cool that I had to have it ...auto or not.

Personally, I love driving in the city with a stick, but I admit, rush-hour traffic sucks and gets very tiring.

any stick driver has to look beyond the hood and plan ahead. If I have passengers in the car having a conversation, I can't pay attention because I'm concentrated on whats ahead and what gear I need to switch into.
-Auto shifting is faster, but when downshifting, it's gonna shift into the gear it feels is appropriate instead of what you want.
-And automatics come in four speed. The gear ratio is different, final drive is higher (am i correct?) which means slower acceleration.
-The transmission weighs nearly 100 lbs. more than a 5 spd.

If I was auto X'ing, I would take stick over auto anyday. You get the benefit of engine braking, which you cant do with the automatic without putting strain on it.
