Yeah, I thought the fuel cut wasn't actually a fuel cut...I think that the ECU cuts the spark.
Think about it: The ECU is seeing too much air flowing through the intake. It thinks that with all of that air, there won't be enough fuel to maintain what it considers a 'safe' A/F ratio. If the ECU cut the fuel, then the motor would go dangerously lean, causing detonation.
I find it hard to believe that the stock ECU would cut fuel instead of cutting spark.
