Who's installed a lightweight flywheel?

Did a search and I can only find info pertinent to the MS3.

Has anyone replaced their stock flywheel with a lightweight one? Particularly the Fidanza?

I have a turbo'03 Protg and I did the Fidanza, I was super scared cause I read a lot of s*** on various forums......I love it!!!! feels almost stock and revs a lot better. I have NO regrets

I have done the lightened flywheel experiment on my 2007 Mazda5, and got both the lightened flywheel and upgraded clutch kit from Exedy.

I too was hoping to get better performance with the lightened flywheel as the engine/clutch in a 2007 Mazda 5 is basically the same as the 2007 Mazda 3. I was hoping that the lighter flywheel would compensate for the not so great throttle response that is common on the Mazda5, but in the end I lost too much torque off the line.

Maybe in the smaller, lighter Mazda 3 or with a turbocharged engine combination this would be a great upgrade. My Mazda5's engine did seem to rev faster, but not an amazing difference. In the end I got the my stock flywheel resurfaced and reinstalled after only 6 months with the lighter flywheel .

Currently my Mazda 5 has the EXEDY Stage 1 Organic Clutch Kit with the stock flywheel, and a upgraded stainless steel clutch line. I'm happy with feel and grip I now have, and have no regrets with my experience even though it did cost me more in the end.

I guess it's a personal preference, and how many times you have extra people in your car weighing it down.

I have just bought the Exedy Stage 1 clutch. Been contemplating the Fidanza and read the same things about loosening bolts etc. I'm going to resurface my flywheel and have the Exedy put in.

UNLESS, the Protege Speed flywheel is better somehow then I'll get one of those.

Does anyone know if the Protege Speed Flywheel is a better performance part and will it fit the standard Protege 5?

Hi, wrong forum mate, please go to the Protg forum. (yes, mazda is overly fascinated with 5... every car it seems is a 5 )
