I am looking for new Anti-Virus and SPywar..and heres my situation.
I currently run Trend Micro for Antvirus and WAS running Webroot Spysweeper for about three months.

I bought this PC new last year...and this is what was reccomended for the price.

My Anti-virus has worked near flewlessly....No complaints on it..but it expired and I need to either update it...or buy something else.

Here is where my issue comes in.
Webroot...Stopped working for some odd reason about 3 months after we got it.
I called customer support....Spent countless hours on the phone with their idiot techs , Uninstalled and re-installed it soo many times and used new codes from theor tech dept..and still never got it to work ever again.
NEVER.

Everytime my computer starts..it says "definition File not found" for it and when it tries to run..I just shut it down.

But since my Anti-virus is now expired..I was looking into something new to do both.

I was reccomended by a friend to look into OneCare from MS...He had a Virus nothing else could get rid of..and that it finally took care of i for him.
Sweet...$50..no big deal.

Then while reading Reviews on it...I read about Kaspersky Labs Anti-virus....and it looks like the End -all of Security right there.
$60...No big deal..Sweet.

Most reviews on this product sound great..some say its bogs down the computer?
I run a lot of multiple windows tasks strictly for the internet..and thats pretty much all I use my computer for other than watching TV as well while surfing the web.

I just want to make sure I keep my computer running as fast as I can as its prety damn fast right now.

It's an Intel Core 2 Duo 1.86M with 2GB of mem. and I cannot complain about it performance one bit.

Its quick to say the least.

I am no computer junkie...not even close....Pretty much a noob...But what would you guys who know better buy?

Kaspersky is one of the best, you can often find it for less than $60. I read somewhere that AOL's free anti-virus is actually Kaspersky with an AOL interface. I have also heard it uses higher than average resources.

If you are worried about it using resources then NOD32 would be good for you. It is very good and uses little resources. It's what I use, its $40 a year, $20 if you are a student. They also have a military discount.

On my friend's and family's computers I usually install AVG Free anti-virus. None of them have had a problem with it yet. They still get spyware though, and I think AVG now offers free anti-spyware as well.

Well...I can get the Kapersky for abot $38 today..or the MS for about $30.
So neither is very expensive.

I just do't want anything to slow me down..but I do want good stuff on my computer for all the Virus', hackers and Adware/spyware programs that run ramapant for us net surfers.

i use kapersky....it works well.

Have never tried kaspersky but it's supposed to be among the best.

However, right now, my personal favorite is avg anti-malware which incorporates both into one product. While the interface isn't the best out there, it's light on system resources and effective enough to keep the majority of the bad stuff out (there is no perfect solution imo). Another little-known but good product is NOD32.

I hate the Mcafee and Norton bloatware and usually steer people away from them. It's funny because these very two programs were the ones to beat some years ago. Trendmicro is great but it seems to be getting bloated as well which is a shame.

Well..I bought the Kaspersky topday...With my BestBuy Points certificates and a 12% of coupon..I only paid $38...Not too bad.
I haven't insalled it yet..but I guess I'll do it tomorow when I get bored.

I'm very happy with NOD32. It works nicely in the background and doesn't hog up memory like some of the more popular programs.

MACs are great reliability. Like the Honda of Computers at least for Laptops. If I ever get a laptop its gonna be a MAC. I don't run spyware at all. LOL I just re-install windows. :-) Just run an external hard drive.

You're obviously not in the computer service industry. I've seen my fair share of Macbooks with hardware issues. Oh, and Hondas aren't all that reliable :)

Spyware/adware/virus programmers hardly program attacks for the Mac OS for one and ONLY one reason, they're used far less than PCs.

i know.............. and thats good enough for me!

my dvd player went out on my mac. and my friends macbook pro has a few keys that stopped working.

but my drive stopped working right after i dropped it and his keyboard about 20 seconds after pouring coffee on his laptop. so ..... they do have problems sometimes!!! haha

BACK ON TOPIC:
hey forcefed.... you wouldn't happen to be in college would ya? i know my state college back home supplied oogles of all the anti-virus software for free. my school here in london has pretty much everything and they just hand it out like candy (which makes total sense). a thought... because i know the one back home i used for my old pc and had free updates almost daily.

Its OK guys..I already bought the Kaspersky.....I still havent installed it..but its bought and I got a good deal..so thats what I am gonna run.

Never said I was. As for Honda's they aren't reliable they are very reliable. Just change the oil and filter every 3k miles. If there's an issue your doing something wrong.
