I'll be running my Speed for the first and probably only time this upcoming week in Atco, NJ. I have some experience at the track; with a Z28 Camaro and AWD Eclipse GSX. I've spun wheels, bogged down, hooked up, squealed and all the rest. What is everyone experiencing when the tree drops and you let her fly? Obviously torque steer and laying the power down is the big issue here. Are you guys launching at 3-4k rpms? My goal is the mid 14's but I'll be happy if I break the 15 sec mark. All the road tests by the pro's have this in the low 14's.

Hey you must be local- I race at Atco relatively frequently. I've been to the track 4 times this season. Atco is a pretty fast track- usually decent DA's and track prep. The only negative thing is the fact that on Street Night they put cones in the staging area that purposely make you run out of the groove. This can, in theory, hinder traction however I haven't had to much problem pulling 1.7 60's pretty consistently on my stock SRT6 tires (Michelin Pilot PS2's).

I've seen only two MS3's at Atco the 4 times I went. I may be there this upcoming tuesday to watch my buddy beat his previous best run (11.9). He's the one that taught me how to launch the 6.

Give me a heads up on what night you are planning on going. I'll film your run and show post it for the forum if you are interested.

When a wholeshot is too much, a partialshot will do.

(lol) OP: wrong hole.

- Turn off traction control
- Lower front tire pressure to 26-28psi
- Raise rear tire pressure to 40-44psi
- Remove spare tire, jack, etc
- Drive around the water box...don't drive through it.
- Unless you are running a dial-in race or are working on reaction time, the tree doesn't matter much. Go when you are ready (obviously not before the green or you'll red light). If you are trying to work on your time, worry about that...if you're not concentrated on hitting the perfect RT you can concentrate more on running a better overall run.
- Rev up to 3-4k RPM
- When it's time to go do a quick slip of the clutch (don't just dump the clutch). From there, shift as fast as possible. That's where a lot of people lose a lot of time...in the shift. Take a stop watch and see how fast a half second goes by...we're talking small amounts of time.
- Don't make consecutive runs - the car will heat soak pretty badly and you will start running slower and slower. Park it, open the hood, and let the IC cool off a bit before running again.

I ran a 13.78 last year with a test pipe and BPV, and not much else. Not great, but better than I thought I would do. Good luck...I'll be in Norwalk this weekend for the Buschur Sport Compact Nationals :)

Lazer,

What do you drive? A Mazda 6?

Look at his signature...he drives a Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6

The 1st to 2nd shift is definately the one to perfect...let me ask you guys...do the replacement shifter bushing really make that much of a difference. I don't really have it in my budget to buy a short shifter and don't really want to...but if it's worth it, I'd prolly do the $30 bushings.

Not true in my case...the 2nd to 3rd shift is probably the most tricky...it's very easy to get hung up on the space between 1 and 3. I've missed that shift more than any other while at the track. Shifter bushings aren't going to help you shift better...only practice will do that.

wholeshot, wow I havent heard that term since The Fast and the Furious, the first movie!

Unfortunately for fwd cars Atco Raceway is set up in such a way that you cannot avoid driving through the water. Thus the reason I line up behind a big V8 or something I know will get a good burn-out. FWD cars often can't/don't do a proper burnout and drag water all the way across the box ruining the next car's chance at any traction off the line.

Good luck- launching the MS3 is quite difficult. I could never do it quite right when I owned mine without feathering the he** out of the clutch. I've heard the best track times are acquired by powershifting the MS3 (ie not letting off the gas in between gears).

Gotta disagree with that part. The faster I can make laps, the faster the car goes. Don't waste time sitting around. Make passes as quickly as you can. If nothing else, seat time is one of the most important aspects to going fast in these cars.
