k i must admit i have a gtr familia but i'm upgrading the head in it to a miata head and need a new turbo manifold and probably a gt30 turbo , who do you all recommend to send me a kit over here in oz.

aaw come on guys some one in the states must know were i can get a 1.8 litre protege turbo manifold , or even a kit.

I hate to break it to you, but there are no turbo kits for a FWD BP. At least not here. Plenty for the MX-5s though. You're gonna have to go custom. It's a great engine to start with though.....

Go to the junk yard and look for a 323 gtx. FWD with turbo. First years were 1.6L motor.

To make the dream turbo FWD 1.8L BP. I suggest you start with getting a SOHC BP motor which is 8.125 to 1 ratio. Take the DOHC head from your motor and place it on that block which will raise your ratio to 8.425 to 1. With having that low compression ratio you can go with a haltech and run 18 to 20 psi no problem. A miata I worked on we used a 91 protege SOHC block with the fly;n miata kit and head. We were running 22 psi with no tranny or block problems. We were running low 11's in the quarter mile.

um sorry to say i allready have the twin over head head from the car standard with a 300hp rated turbo and AWD (rally homolagation car) (wrc) , i'm upgrading the head to a protege one and need options for decent manifolds , found a good one from mental addiction motorsports in the forced induction area, but was hoping to find others to compete with this one .

Try getting the Protege intake manifold too. It has dual length runners. You'll just need a way of controlling it to open around 5300RPM.

Glowspeed, I think you missed the part where he said he has a Familia GTR. It's an engine capable of running 25psi stock......

yep and i have upgraded the engine a fair bit since i bought it, i now have about 270 hp at the wheels and low 12's (clutch slip is bad for times good for saving boxes) . thanks for the advice gen1gt i have the protege manifold and intend to use it after a bit of hydralic porting (they draw paste through with a grinding medium in it) to make it go a bit better and i intend to get the e-boost i have to do the control since it might not be to good for the valves to have a high boost hit them at the wrong time, or i might get the microtech computer to do it i'm not sure yet since it will depend on where the new turbo i'm getting will spool up at.

just noticed that gen1gt has exactly the same front on his car (took the big ugly bar off) and that he chopper the trunk off of his car it would look like mine :)

Hydraulic honing? That's the first time I've heard it called that. We call it Extrude honing here. Keep us updated with your results......

yeah the company used to be called extrude a hone or something but got into a court case , now its called hydralic honing (well it is a liquid) anyway yeah will keep you posted, now over to the boost area to find out about that kit.

if you're considering other stand alone managements you might also want to research the autronic engine management system. it's a former programmer/tuner from motec that started his company when he realized he could make more money marketing his own products, LOL. same quality and fuctions as it too but since he programmed some of the programs he's put his own little twists and patents into the autronic, plus, the biggest kick is that they're a real affordable system (as far as FULL engine management systems go. the dealer/tuner down here for them usually has his systems installed and tuned starting at $2,500). a lot of rally cars and circuit cars run that system. namely where i'm at, they've got a lot of fast drag cars running the systems. it also may also help that the aussie based company may be a tad bit closer to your part of the world? *shrug*

Ya, I'm thinking a stand-alone with proper tuning will definitely put you over the 300whp barrier. I think you should also look into an exhaust header and larger turbo. I've seen dyno gains of 20whp just from a turbo header. Your bottom end can handle 500+whp stock, so you might as well take advantae of it.

starflare i already have a aftermarket computer (microtech) admittedly its not as good as the autronic or motec but a lot cheaper at $1200 oz with a lot of the functions a normal car can use , since i don't have a full race car i like my aircon and idle control circuit working :) and being in hawaii you can understand the need sometimes. gen1gt thanks for the info, if i get this gt30 combo that MAM is selling (waiting for test car to be finished) i will definately have one hell of a ride , then all i have to do is start making it look pretty.
