Who has a Auto or A/T Protege5?

Got an Auto P5 for my wife 3 months ago. Auto trannys have come a long way in the last few years, with 4-speeds having taken over from 3-speeds as the norm. I used to drive stick shift excusively, but really do not miss it since being 'forced' to get Automatics as my wife has no inclination to learn manual. I often have a coffee or phone in one hand anyways. I find the P5 performs very well with the auto... even can get the realtively sticky Dunlup tires chirping from a dead stop if the conditions are right.

I've got an auto... bumper to bumper traffic everyday for my hour and a half commute to work made manual out of the question!

got that right traffic sucks! same mine is auto too

Seattle has really crappy traffic...I think it was like 2nd or 3rd worst in nation..but still
Manual..
when you down shift on a twisty to third and then...that's when you know...
it's worth it

It would be nice if we had an HTML form feeding to a DB that stored all our statistics so these repetitive threads would be minimized. Besides, it would help us locate like owners if we happen to be troubleshooting problems with our specific mods, models, colors, etc.

Naaaaaahhh!

Check out the thread I started for suggestions on this very thing!

By the way...in lieu of a repository...manual. :D

Man I hate to admit this but...Surgery is right. It sure would be nice to have a database of all users of this forum which details their car - color, tranny, options, mods; and personal info if they choose to supply it - where they live, age, shoe size, etc. You get the picture. Admins? ... Class? ... Ferris? ... Anyone?

Ok I am gonna admit it as well. I have an auto. I am in the same situation. At the time of my purchase I didnt know how to drive stick but since then I have learned.

Oh yeah. Almost forgot. 5-speed manual. For me the ONLY way to go. I understand the need for an automatic in you get stuck in 2 hours worth of stop-and-go rush hour traffic going to work everyday. Even so it would be tough for me to make that decision.

And if you have multiple drivers and one does not yet know how to use a manual - teach them! They aren't going to learn any younger! They will love it once they have it figured out.

I bought this car for several reasons but the main one is that it is a blast to drive. The 5-speeds are a little quicker and there is no denying that they are more fun to drive than the autos. Downshift to get the revs up before attacking a twisty mountain curve sometime and you will never go back to an automatic if you don't have to. :)

I didn't really know how to learn stick, I had driven friends' Si's and GS-Rs in dragging..but not just around town and normal driving...I learned on the P5...
I went to downtown Seattle (home of huge hills) the first week and it wasnt bad at all..
and ive
only stalled couple times at the beginning of my manual career..
=)

For me, I got the automatic for 2 reasons. 1) being that there was, and still is, a chance that I have to get surgery on my left knee. That totally eliminates driving with a stick until it heals. 2) being that I too, like so many others, have to deal with crappy stop and go traffic for 2 hours.

auto baby. its the 21st century. let the tranny do the thinking and shifting. 1 hour each way to work/school WITHOUT traffic going 80, even more with traffic. screw manual :)
