Who else hates the fake carbon fiber trim on the center console?

^^ agree.

i don't mind the CF-looking stuff. after all, it IS an economy car. you want a really nice interior? step up to a more expensive car. in all honesty, i can't see an $30 vinyl cover-up kit looking that much better than a factory installed dash. and boo to bright colors inside the car. (rice)

and even if i didn't like it, i probably wouldn't spend too much $$ or effort to change it. if it's not getting me around that course any faster, screw it.

I just think it looks odd being that it is the only carbon fiber look alike in the entire interior. All the other accents are silver.

But you guys are right ... i think the vinyl coverups (even if they're silver) would look even tackier. Once I have a whole day to myself i'm going to take the center console out and repaint it to match the rest of the trim. Paint won't cost much ... but it'll be time consuming.

from what i understand you take the sterio out and there are three white pins you reach in and pry them off. :) there is a how to about taking off the center console :)

It's ok. It really makes the car look younger unlike wood where you have the grandpa vibe going on.

i found proly the simplest solution to the fake carbon fiber problem

go here http://www.selectproducts.com./product/carbonfiberv.htm

buy the carbon fiber vinyl then pull out the center console using the how to in the how to section, cut you a strip about half a inch longer and wider on each side of those lil peices that are fake carbon fiber wrape this carbon fiber vinyl around it to the back you can trim off the extra but folding it around to the back will work just as good. and make it look factory, then put it all back together and your set. vinyl carbon fiber :) not exactly real but look better than that fake stuff.

I would prefer re-painting the entire center console, myself. I'm just not digging the carbon fiber, period. Aaargh ... so many pieces to paint and no time to do it in. (calipers, center console, upper grill) (rant)

lol, i just contacted them to find out if that vinyl really looks like carbon fiber in the picture you really cant tell, so when they get back to me i'll buy a yard only 15 dollars for a yard thats not bad, i'll do it and take picutres so you guys can see, i have carbon fiber guage bezel already so i need this to finish off the look.
i'll post later on when i get the info.

yeah, i'll also maybe do a re writeup on how to remove the console cuz the one i just looked at on the forum is kinda like WHAHT!??!!? lol doesn't really get into much detail. i'll figure it out. anyways, good luck with painting all that stuff.

My car came with the all black center console (I think the LX trim in the US comes this way too) anyways, I hate it because it looks dull, but I love the interior trim of the P5/MP3/ES so I ordered it from mazdastuff (I think), I haven't installed it yet but I really like how it looks. Most of you guys get it stock  , lucky bastards.

my .02$

jac, i dont like that its fake the company coudla spend a few extra cents and had real thing ;) now im having to spend 15 for cf vinyl to do the job myself hehe.

I really like the Pro5 interior including the cf look stuff on the dash just my opinion. But i agree the silver stuff scratches way too easy. Does mazda sell the silver paint to fix scratches ??

LOL, i dont think so ;) but then agian maybe they do. paint on plastic might as well repaint the full thing a whoel new color.

Well no you aren't stepping on my toes. I love carbon fiber. I just think it is an awesome material. I have liked it for years. Long before the days of rice. My plan for the interior is to get rid of all of the silver and replace it with real carbon fiber. I can't stand the fake stuff. it is almost as bad as the fake plastic wood trim in some cars. I know everyone may not like all carbon fiber but for the direction I am going with my car it is exactly what I want. Basically the entire interior is going to be Carbon fiber, black suede, and black leather. No grey or silver anywhere.

yeah, im not going quite as far as you i like the silver im just getting ride of that fake cf s*** and adding some carbon fiber to some other goodies in the car as well
