This probably isn't a big deal, but I've noticed that when I rev past 3k RPMs there's a distinct whistle type of sound. I have the sportshift 4-speed. What could this be, if it is indeed trans-related?

Does it do it when the tranny is in neutral? If so, it may not be tranny-related. Check your intake path for leaks.

what mods do u have on ur car?.. my car started making a whistling sound after i installd my turbosmart bov

deff intake, or bov.. if it was tranny ud have a ridiculous loss in power aswell as very horrible responce

LOL,
when i got a whisteling i found out it was coming through my radio and out the speakers! a radio wire must have been crossed or something in my case.

That's called "engine noise." Caused by a bad ground wire or a bad/open spot on a wire.

...or wires that were not shielded sufficiently.

all i did was move stuff around and it doesnt do it anymore. lol. i took out the radio to hard wire my sat radio in and now its stopped.

Thanks for the responses all.

That sounds right.

Definitely not the stereo, I had that problem in my Jetta and I had to do was replace a few grounds.

Did you ever find out what that noise was because i have the same noise and im trying to figure out what the noise is.

Try a search on it. Several possibilities. My car started doing it and then ate a VICS screw. Whistle must have been the airflow past the screw backing out. My vehicle is a 1.8 and was NOT part of the recall either.
