Hey so I got this lovely 98 626 lx from for free, was literally handed the title :D

but also my boss is trying to get rid of some cars and one happens to be an 88 or 89 626 2.2l turbo intercooled five speed sedan :)

I've driven the old one, runs fairly well for not having started for three years... He's selling for $800 since everything is in good condition. Also barely any rust iirc.

And here's the deal with the newer one, the timing belt snapped. I know it's a non interference being the 2.0 fs-de engine, but it is also a 5 speed with leather seats, cruise control, and more modern looks. It's also had the stuffing beat out of it, and I don't have a damn clue what else is wrong with it.

So I'm wondering, what one would you guys keep? Would you think if I fixed the newer one I might be able to sell it and cover my costs for the old one or would I be happier with the new one?

Pic of what the old one pretty much looks like exactly (no pics of that one)

Bump.. Anyone think if i fixed up and cleaned the white one, I might be able to get at least $800 for it?

5 speed 626 referring to the newer one? didnt think they made them in a 5 speed. Boost is nice, but if your looking for a DD i would fix up the newer. My roommate had one and its was really nice and comfy.

would love to get one for a DD

Why is the exterior shot of a different color 626?

does "because it's not the same car" sound right? LOL. those were just pics to show anyone that didn't know what the car looked like, what it looked like.

But yes, both 88 and 98 626's are five speed manuals....

Got the chance for a couple crappy cell phone pics at work today. Don't mind the spare tire, the other one is all leaky around the beads.

So far here's what I know. The 88 Mazda was fixed up after sitting in the back for 3 years. The timing belt, water pump, fuel pump, fuel lines, and battery were replaced. It DOES need a clutch, but I'm gonna help my boss install it. He's selling it for $850 which does include the new clutch work.

I think I'm going to fix up the 98, clean it up, and sell it..... If I can get anywhere between 8-900 I'll be happy. Quite frankly, I don't even know what else is messed up on the 98... like if it still needs a clutch maybe.

crappy pics though, as promised.

Yeah, I'd say go with the GT hatch. Those things last forever. 200k miles on the clock is still brand new. Plus, you'll probably never see another one on the road.

I probably wouldn't. LOL. I think I'll definitely get it later on..... I can probably get rid of this one for at least 1k after I'm done with it..... probably $1,500

Just think, it could look like this when you're done. Then you'd get allll the ladies. Or men, if that's your pref.

It's a sick car. The GT hatch is super rare to start with, but then it's got a fully built FE3 in it....

Oh, yeah, sorry the owner swapped in an FE3. They've normally got the F2T, which is quite a stout motor.

wow, thats a nice 626. i just bought one a couple weeks ago. sucks the body is shot. could of been a nice car to drive in.

also , buy the hatch. they are super rare and the engines last forever. as someone said. plus they haul.

yeah they sure do lol..... got to drive it after putting a new clutch in. :) could use some better paint and wheels, but the rest isn't bad. I'll probably buy it in a few years.
