Mazda Protege ES 2.0
Whats good y'all? I just bought a Mazda 3 back in September of last year form some used dealership in Queens, NY. I love the car, it fits its purpose but I have no idea which model I have. I dont know if its an iSport, an S, or whateva, i just know its not a Mazdaspeed. I have a 4 door with basic features no fogs, and its temporarily an automatic. I just called up the Mazda Service center near me and he says that I have an S... but he didnt really know what he was talking about so I have no confidence in him. He says that the S is a 2.0 and yet in every forum i go to, and in every CARandDriver or MotorTrend review I've read says the S only comes in a 2.3. How the hell do I figure out what it is that I have?

still need help!!!

Second question... i found out that i have a Mazda 3 S... Do the 2008 model S's come with the 2.0 or the 2.3???

the s is a 2.3 the i is a 2.0

post a few pics of the car, and ill see if i can help you figure out if its an i of s

3i comes with 2.0l and 3s comes with 2.3l.
this took approximately 28 seconds of internet research time!

also the 2.3 (S) has a 2.3 emblem on the side profile, 2.0 has no badge, i think may have hubs.

the 2008 3S has a 2.3.

cant be a mazdaspeed because it is an auto.

what are the options on it.? that will tell you the trim.

no offense... but if you bought the car this blindly, does it even matter if it's an i or an s?

If by "temporarily automatic" means you plan is to convert it to manual, you would be MUCH BETTER off selling your car and buying another before you put any money into it. The differences of an auto to a manual are a lot more complex than you think, its more than just changing the transmission. I speak from experience. I needed a complete donor car to get through my swap. I had put too much time and money into my car to sell and re buy, I also got lucky finding the donor car, but believe me, never again will I do it to another car. If you want a manual, get one in the first place, period.

I'm not trying to start anything, but I don't see why half of the posts in this thread are here. The guy comes to the right place to ask a question about his car. An answer should be given and that is it. Yes. he made a mistake by buying a car which he did not know much about. But everybody makes mistakes. I bought my 3i without knowing much about it. If I could go back again, I would not have gotten the I model. At least he is bothering to ask the question and learn more about his car rather than staying in the dark. Does he really need to be called a dumbass and have jokes made about him? I occasionally post threads on here asking questions which I should have known prior to purchasing, and if someone posted just to call me a dumbass, it A) does not give a good vibe to the forum and pushes away newocomers, and B) I would think just the same about them for taking the time to criticize me when all I want to do is learn.

I'm not just talking about this thread. I have seen in other threads as well.

i have no problem with people asking basic questions for which they need help finding an answer. but the OP was acting desperate and confused, when all i did was google "2008 mazda3 trim levels." as though he couldn't do this himself? and, quite honestly, opening your post with "...i have no idea what model i have." is asking for trouble. not only that, but he bought the car from a dealership 4 months ago and STILL doesn't know what he's driving!

yes there is a point where a question is rendered completely rediculous. (google) is your friend

you guys can do and say whatever you want. I will just say that while I think he could and probably should have done some work and answered this question himself, I don't think it is the right thing to do to bash somebody unless they are being a dick to other people. I also think it gives the forum (and I don't claim to be the king voice of the forum) a bad vibe, but that is just my opinion.

understood. i don't condone bashing anyone either, all i'm doing in this thread is stating the obvious. the OP could have looked at his owners manual, looked at the badges, looked under the hood, done a simple google search, or better yet asked the dealer what he was buying BEFORE he bought it. considering the OP's level of knowledge and motivation, what would he even do with the information in regard to his car's trim level? this is an enthusiasts' website. i'm just not sure how enthusiastic one can be about an ambiguous mazda3 with a "temporary transmission." in a perfect world everyone would hold his hand. in reality he is going to take some s***.

At the very least he should have posted a photo (with the first post). If he can't tell by looking at it, how are WE going to know what it is sight unseen? We have nothing to go by. So all we have left to do is poke fun.

As simple as you guys think i might be, I know that the S is the 2.3 motor, but the reason why i ask is cause I just saw the Mazda Dealerships computer. According to my vin # i have a mazda 3 s, but it also says according to their parts department that I have the 2.0 engine. I dont have the 2.3 badge on the side, but my dealership tells me its an S. And to who eva asked if I bought a car and didnt know what it was, your not listening. I know I have a Mazda 3... its just a matter of which trim. I also have a Mazda Protege ES 2.0 so I kinda know my cars, but just not too familiar with the 3.
