which FMIC has no problems?

I was hoping to get some feedback on which of these FMIC companies have put out a product without any complications. I was close to purchasing one, when i started hearing about engine cooling problems.

Who wants an upgrade that forces you to upgrade components that should function properly either way?

If all of these FMIC upgrades have issues, I guess upgrading exhaust would be a better idea.

Unsure on what probs you are reffering to but I have heard nothing but praise with our FMIC from our customers:)

I think he's refering to the cooling problems from blocking air flow to our small radiator. This is my concern as well. I'm down in lower alabama (hot and humid as hell). I don't want to get a fmic if i'm goin to have to replace my radiator with a bigger one or upgrade fans. Sounds like the snow ball effect to me.

Please someone tell me diffrently so I can feel good about dropping the cash on one. An upgraded intercoolr designed to fit in the factory location (where it doesn't block air flow to the radiator) seems like it would be a good idea......

.....talk to me spool....

hmm we have had no issues on any of our turbo cars running our FMIC. We utilize the same I/C on our turbo kits as well as the MSP. If the design of the core or construction does not permit airflow it can hinder the performance of the radiators cooling capacity.....however I can assure you on our kits that we have never never had any cooling or radiator issues. We have many cars running in south florida and in arizona running bigger turbos with no issues regarding airflow or cooling of the radiator:)

Spool & iON have both shown that theirs are good, but if I am gonna spend that much, I want it to look good too. So far, the only one that I like is this one:

Any FMIC will reduce airflow to the radiator...the real question is how much. After I put in my Greddy FMIC on my ride I had major cooling issues but that was on a seriously inadequate stock SR radiator the MSP rad is much bigger and I have no doubts that it can handle a FMIC.

Side note- You must remember that there is always a cause and effect relationship when it comes to mods (trade offs if you will). That is why they didn't come like that from the factory. One upgrade can cause another part to not function propperly. It's the nature of the beast.

Any mod done must be considered as best as possible for what it may effect and set aside money to remedy that issue. Also a bigger radiator never hurt anybody :D

spoolinmp3- I think lamp3 pointed out the issues I was talking about. I'm glad that you have had no coolant problems with your system, I will take that into consideration for sure :)
Black Majik MSP- Which system is that?

What about boost fall off like with the compression ratings and what not?? how much pressure does your system loose spool????

I know that the ION FMIC requires you to have to cut some holes for piping. Is the Spool one like that?

Those hole were SOOO easy to cut.

Rotozip baby! Took 3 minutes. Good old black tremclad on it after, good as new!

I was going to use a Plasma Cutter. Damn those Power Steering Lines. Oh well Everything was fine!

FMIC

Replace the "Stock" MSP rad with an Aluminum Unit from AWR.

This will eliminate any cooling concerns you have. I have and cooling is fine.

Which one did you get Dave?

HIGH PERFORMANCE RADIATOR 1995-2003 PROTEGE SEDAN, MP3 AND PROTEGE5 $485

OR

COMPETITION RADIATOR 1995-2003 PROTEGE SEDAN, MP3 AND PROTEGE5 $667

If I got a FMIC I would go w/ the High Perfromance since it's bigger(wider ... not thicker)... that way I can get rid of the POS we have :D If not, the Competition looks good for just a regular upgrade for us

What do you think?

No cutting of the radiator support is necessary with our FMIC

No pressure is lost with our FMIC, we have less drop than the actual stocker:)

No idea what FMIC that is...can't quite read the letters on the front. I just saved it from a thread I saw on here, but I can't remember where I got it. I guess you can ask someone about the IMG name.

I agree with Tito...that's gotta be the sweetest FMIC I've seen. Fills the front air damn beautifully! I'm sure with this one, though, you'll run into rad cooling problems. It takes up all the real estate up front.

Small price to pay, though...I'll take it!
