wow... you must be the guy that never downloads mp3 or anything else to be stay legal and get praised from record industries and etcs. or you are ******* rich to buy all those stuff.
cause I can't afford those.
damn... I need money to be just like you.

neither.......I don't have tons of expensive software......I can't afford that professional level s*** like Photoshop and Premiere either......besides, it's not even designed for home use.....they have reasonably priced alternatives for that. I use Linux so the software I use is free.....and in most cases is equal to or better than what a person would pay for on Windows. Lack of funds is no excuse to steal.

wow... i would like to know how you are getting paid by the music industry. perhaps you are the most moral and pious person that I have ever heard of and your arguments are logically sound. but the question is how can someone be that convinced of the piety and infallability of an industry that has repeatedly lied to the american public...

does anyone else remember the music industry's promise to consumers (in the early 90's) that if they supported the CD (then compact disc) format that prices would come down? the industry has actually been sued by states' attorney generals for that one...

I download and continue to do so today but I do so with the knowledge that it "could" be a crime (no self-incrimination here). I do support the music industry even to this day; when someone puts something out that is worth $12 to me then I will and do buy it (as evidenced by my collection of 400 CDs).

Don't condemn those around you while not acknowledging the crimes of those you present as victims... It may not be the solution to commit crimes against criminals but where is the alternative?

P.S. If you are looking to download music to listen to (before purchasing it, of course) then make sure to remove all items from your shared folder.

P.S.2. Its not digital property its intellectual property and that comes from a basic understanding of legal prinicples.

and exchanging distributing free photocopied versions of Stephen King novels to millions of people should be legal too. Hey, it's reduced quality. Downloading MP3's (copyrighted ones) is obtaining property that you have not paid for......period......also known as theft. The quality or whatever is completely irrelevant to the argument that you have illegally obtained the digital property of someone else. Why do people make the incorrect assumption that there is some difference between stealing digital property and tangible property? There simply isn't one....and to think otherwise is to have an absence of knowledge of basic economic principles.

I am not stating that you are wrong, but if the RIAA continues to do this type of stuff then others will jump on the bandwagon and before you know it the internet will not be able to post anything. Mazda will sue this board for tangible info exchanged. All of the pictures that people post will have to be explicitly copyrighted and etc. On this note then photocoping machines and scanner will need to be destroyed.
I am not stating that this will happen, but it is a chain reaction. There are lots of ways of obtaining property that you have not paid for, that doesn't make it wrong. There is a difference between stealing and sharing and that is why a lot of people can't understand your meaning. Most people do not feel that file-sharing/swapping is illegal because it is shared. If you go to a store and steal something, taking an item from a known business without rightfully paying then yes that is stealing, or taking an item from an acquantance's house without their prior knowledge for personal gain, that is stealing! Sharing music with people you don't know is not stealing. Not in the sense that most people think of it.
You have to understand that calling a bunch of people theives for sharing something (as they believe it is sharing) can seem a bit hardcore. Like I said before, it was believed to be sharing. It has now been considered stealing and therefore is not wrong, the RIAA has gone on a witchhunt and has retrofitted this meaning for all time, not just since the ruling. Therefore a lot of people feel wronged by a business that seems to want more money constantly.

It is like taxes.
We know we have to pay them, but damned if we don't b**** about them!

You people Just Stole 10 mins of my Intellectual property ..... I will now sue you all for whatever arbitrary amount the RIAA Sets for me.... thank you, I will be expecting your checks promptly

no.....un-purchased CD's are returned to the record companies.

who is talking about un-purchased CDs?

i am talking about Used CD stores, not Virgin Megastore.

where did this thing about unpurchased CDs come from? im saying that the RIAA sees no money from second hand CD sales so why dont they outlaw that too?

Didn't read through entire post.

Has someone already suggested Kazaa lite?

Use it, it uses an anonymous user so they can't track you down.

Oh....I don't know about used CD's......if you own the CD then you own the music......shouldn't matter if you bought it or if it was a gift or if you picked it up second hand.

My opinions on illegal ownership and distribution and copyrighted intellectual property are unrelated to my thoughts of the industry itself. Those are 2 completely separate topics. As I've said countless times before I was a musician and have friends still in the biz at all levels.....I hate the record companies and the RIAA. I'd love to see artists get more power and not be left out to dry by these one-sided contracts. Also, I think the RIAA are complete morons for trying to shut down the digital distribution of music instead of adapting and investing in it's future, thus legitimizing the activity that millions currently do illegally. However, none of these feelings are a justification to wantonly take and distribute the property of these companies without paying.

There are always legal means.....online petitions, boycotts, countersuits, you name it.
