Where to after CX-5?

I like the Volvo XC60 a lot. Problem with that is the price starts to skyrocket when you add options. And Volvo has like 8 option packages. Kind of ridiculous. Maybe a used one in 5 years if not a Mazda.

That's my issue-gonna be a damn tough act to follow! I'm intrigued by the diesel but I think I'd more likely go touring gas putting the diff into a brz...or find a cherry 16.5:) or keep up my beloved 2014 until it completely craps out and hopefully hcci will be out and running for awhile by then. So if Mazda did something wrong it was making the 2014 so damn good owners tend to be in no rush to let go!
I'm interested to see what HCCI ends up looking like for sure.

Until then, my CX-5 has been rock solid. I'm keeping it till it's dead and done.

I have a 2015 Touring and am aiming for quieter and fewer stops at the gas station. I've looked a bunch of sedans and there's some fit issues that keep recurring. Frankly, if the diesel ever shows up it should fix both.

I pulled some C&D test reports to compare noise levels. The 2017 CX-5 beat everything I looked at but a Lexus so it's got the noise easy, now I just want to go 400 miles before the gas light shows up.

Exactly. Even my HEMI powered Jeep had to stop less than this thing. These are the exact reasons I am even entertaining the idea of the diesel.

I agree but this is another area that has been addressed with the '17 and is really improved.

"A closer look reveals that the base of the A-pillars has been moved rearward by about 1.5 inches to improve sightlines."

"The windshield pillars were pulled back by about an inch and a third (35mm) for greater visibility over the fenders in cornering — and for seeing pedestrians in crosswalks."

"The A-pillar has been moved back 35 mm for improved visibility, torsional rigidity is improved by 15.5 percent"

Agreed. I was just thinking that yesterday "Man I sure wish I could see through the turns..."

Disappointing, how so?

Love my 2014.

Had many issues that had to be fixed at the dealer and annoying things that I was not expecting, multiple brakes, rattles, door actuators, trans staring to slip, fit and finish, excessive road and wind noise, black interior that is impossible to keep clean, inferior entertainment issues. My wife is an infusion nurse so she lives in her car all day. Unfortunately the seats are so flat and uncomfortable she can't take the back pain anymore. I have driven it on long runs on vacation trips with the same issue. We usually keep are cars for 10 years, and unfortunately haven't experienced the reliability, quality, and comfort with our CX5.

I have found the CX5 to have all the issues you state except the reliability issues. So far mine is decent, but it definitely is NOT the vehicle I would want if I drove around like your wife all day. I would look into a lightly used certified GLK350 4Matic, if you like the AWD CUV concept.

Honestly, if you want a slightly bigger car that is even more comfortable, faster, has more cargo room and fun to drive, think about a CX-9. Really. The diesel CX-5 has what I need. Over 300 lb feet of torque with great gas mileage in a sporty, but quiet and comfortable package.

Only other car I was personally thinking of is an Acura MDX.

For the price of a decked out CRV.......I'd look into a certified MDX. LEDs, no CVT but rather Honda's 9-speed automatic, Siri hands free capability, 290HP.

The CX-9 option is also attractive although the diesel CX-5 is a really good value.

Yup, I have driven the MDX as we were looking at a bunch of cars before we purchased our mini-van. The MDX was nice but the CX-9 was actually nicer in many ways. The MDX has terrible real world gas mileage and the premium gas requirements was a pain.

Pretty cool analysis.

I agree, which is why I ended up buying a 2017 Miata soft top!

I would get a soft top if I had a 2 car garage that was sealed better than the 1 car garage I have at this condo right now.

I'll park in it at night and the next day it has a fine layer of dust/dirt on it. Haven't figured out where it's coming in from.

Nice. I'd either like to find a decent PRHT, or agreed on the ND. Don't need the brembo kit though. Kinda wish the RF was more like a PRHT. I like the RF top up, but not really top down.

Financial priorities aside, only 1 car garage right now though, so no rush.

I wouldn't mind getting a used Miata with Brembro package. Well the Club edition. Keep in mind it includes limited-slip differential, a retuned suspension with Bilstein shocks, tower brace under the hood, and BBS lightweight wheels.

If I can purchase a used Miata and supplement said parts with comparable aftermarket stuff for cheaper I would though. Great autocross car you can actually drive home and/or DD.

Would get a club as well, but personally not interested in spending the dough on brembo/bbs.

I am keeping my 14 CX-5 I hope by the time it needs replacing in 7 to 10 years there is something better, but if I had to replace it tomorrow I would buy a 2016 CX-5. The only other car that interests me is a Tesla. I would like one for fun. If I had a long commute to a PC company I would buy a used Tesla. A lot of the PC companies around here offer preferred parking and free charging for electrics. Free commuting fuel would be hard to pass up.

For a long commute to a non PC company I would drive / Ride a Can-Am Spyder. FUN.

Test drove Dodge Challenger AWD GT V6 and Tesla Model X.

Now, the Challenger was great. Excellent finish, superb quiet drive and me thinks it looks awesome. There is a big trunk and lots of room in the back. If anyone digs its looks, I do suggest to check it out.

Tesla X - This is another planet really. I did want to experience its acceleration, instant torque, the screen, sound quality and falcon doors.

I tested how it behaves from 50 to 80 MPH as there are plenty of videos from 0-60. It is beyond amazing. 5 people total, it took less than 2 seconds to get from 50 to 80. This would be extremely useful on the hwy driving.

The fit and finish was very good. Tesla really has done well. It was super quiet, quick and comfy.

We've decided to get it in 2-3 years.

Once one drives this, there is no way back really.

It is my wife's turn, to get a new one in a year, when my payment is over, so I will keep it another five years.

Except your sitting on a bomb. No thanks. You ever see a lithium battery fire/explosion? Let me help you out. Here is what happens when a battery weighing less than ONE OUNCE goes KB:

I'll take a gasoline fire ANY day, thanks.

From your link - in 2nd paragraph :
"Speckman, who was found to have a blood-alcohol level of 0.21 percent — nearly triple Indiana’s 0.08 percent limit — was killed by the crash, but 44 year-old Kevin McCarthy died as a result of the subsequent explosion and fire."

Fire is fire, I dont know what you mean by you will take gasoline fire - maybe you are immune to it, unfortunately 99.999999999999999999999999999% of the population are not.
