Where Is Mazda Headed Next?

Don't think adding a turbo to the 6 will increase sales that much.

Adding a turbo to CX-5 would increase it more

Well how many would they sell if they had Toyota capacity to make them?

Over here not that much as passenger car sales are falling due to SUV sales. Not to mention most Camry sales here are for fleet and Mazda doesn't target fleet.

Mazda is marketing the Mazda6 as a Sports Sedan, which if I'm not mistaken, is equivalent to a Sports Saloon in Europe. Sports Sedans/Saloons are usually high power grand touring cars. If there is any car in the Mazda lineup that needed a higher performing engine, it is the Mazda6. I'm not surprised that the Mazda6 is the first car other than the CX-9 to get the turbo engine.

Now regarding AWD and FWD. Like I said previously, I'm fine if it is just FWD as long as it comes with a LSD. I'm a big fan of AWD, but FWD + LSD should not be underestimated.

I do agree that making AWD available for the Mazda6 would give it one more desired feature that other midsize sedans don't have, most likely helping the car sell more as well.
No one has mentioned the Kia Stinger yet.
I wonder if that's a car that Mazda has on it's radar.
I'd love to see an upscale Mazda 6 AWD with turbo go up against the Stinger, and a few BMW's as well.
I don't think they're that far away.

Stinger over here is filling the gap that the Holden Commodore (Chevy SS) has left now that it's no longer being built here.

It's a level up from the Mazda 6.

The Kia Optima/Hyundai Sonata are the 6's competitors.

The auto gearbox has been consistently praised by reviewers here regardless of which Mazda model it resides in

Mazda makes a fine auto trans for sure. But it's still nowhere near as engaging to drive as their manual.

In the announcement they said the 2.5T engine is going to be available on the top trim, which means it will 99% be only available with the auto transmission for now. I honestly feel that having an auto trans shouldn't disqualify it from being considered as a daily driver "sports sedan". I mean what are your other options at this point? You will have to cough up more money to get into a BMW 3 series with a manual or an Audi A4, both nice cars but also smaller than the midsize Mazda6.

You are probably right but I like the auto and apparently it in the new CX-5 it responds even better than the one I have in my 2015 Mazda 6
