2012 Mazda 3i
I have a 2012 Mazda 3i sport with 1150 miles and I am wondering when is the first time to get an oil change? I have read and heard so many different miles, that I want to see when everyone else got theirs done. I heard 500, 1000, 1500, 2500, 5000 and 7500. I just want to make sure I get it done at the right time so my Mazda will last me a long time as some of these Mazda's have. Thanks for any input.

Going by the manufacturer's recommended first service: 7500 miles

I'll probably do all my oil changes at 5,000 instead of 7,500.

Everyone talks about changing fluids after 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, xxxx miles for a new car. Is there any manufacturer documentation to back it up? I have yet to see any...then again this is the first brand new car I've purchased. I trust the manufacturer over the dealer or some folks on the internet that I don't know. s***, maybe they have some fancy new car formula in the engine that they WANT you to drive on until the first recommended service interval...so changing at 100 miles or whatnot...you're not following the manufacturer's recommendations.

I just changed mine today at 4900 miles. I replaced it with some Amsoil signature. Next change? 20,000 miles from now.... so... next week. :p

I was actually wondering this same thing....

When a new engine starts to run, small bits of alloys and various metals accumulate in the oil as the engine 'breaks in'. I can't imagine this is good from a lubrication standpoint, but the salesman (who didn't know what an OBD2 was) said to just change it at 7,500. I wonder if there is any harm in changing it early?

i have a 2012 Mazda3 2.0 L skyactiv and i just changed mine at 4200. i used amsoil OE 0w20. 6.50 a qt and ill be changing mine every 5k miles...

Just follow the manufacturers recommendation. You'll retain your warranty, plus they know these cars much better than random people on the internet.

I had mine changed at 1K, I subscribe to the random leftover shavings/dust/particles in the engine case theory. I too used Amsoil 0-20.
