Wheelman's Mazdaspeed Protege Restoration Project

Hey guys, so its been a long time coming but I finally own another Protege, and its a Mazdaspeed like I had originally wanted! Most people probably dont know my old P5 but it was my first car and I loved it.

I sold it after only a year of owning it because I wanted a Mazdaspeed Protege to go and run the local Time Attack series with. I had a pretty decent one all lined up but it was around Christmas time but guy I was going to be buying it off of was super busy selling his house so it just fell through. I really regret not being more patient because the car I ended up with set me on a bad path. A 2004 Toyota Matrix XRS that I dumped money into and it never even saw the track before being written off, and losing my investment. Fortunately I was still able to race because I picked up an old 98 EK Honda Civic hatch, and I am sorry to say, its an amazing car. I understand why everyone loves them so much, and it is also being rebuild in my driveway right no for next year.

Through the whole year I couldn't help but want another MSP and I finally convinved my dad to jump on this one wih me as a bit of a project. It belonged to an old member here and he had torn it all apart for a big rebuild that he just didn't get around to finishing. It is pretty much just a shell and it is going to be alot of work to get it back to the way I want it, but it is going to be worth every penny! I am not going to say what I have planned for it as most plans change and this rebuild will take place over a pretty long period of time. Its fall here so when winter comes we wont be able to work on it to much anyway. I am hoping to just get into tearing apart what is left, cleaning and making a list of whats to come for next year by the time the snow hits. So here are the pics and hopfully all goes well from here! Thanks for looking.

cool man! there seems to be some interesting stuff going on with that car. the upper rad support looks like it was changed for some reason? yet that's the stock rad in the trunk...

Yeah he cut the stock support out so he could move the rad further up to support the bigger turbo setup. Thats the first thing that I will be dealing with. Shouldnt be too much trouble.

Just for the sake of an update to this poor car I bought a set of coils for it this week. K-Sports that aparently need a rebuild, I am not a fan of the brand but coming from a car that has so much more aftermarket support they will do. I am also going to see if I can find a donor car for this one, it will make life alot easier. I let it air out a bit after winter and I am definitely going to need a new carpet and headliner, possibly quite a few other interior items as it gotten a bit nasty.

Plans for it are still up in the air a bit but I think I am going to go with a bit more of a "restoration" build. It will keep things affordable and fun while still getting me where I want. Racing season starts soon and I have to finish my Civic so hopfully I can keep this moving a bit on this end. Enjoy the one picture that shows that I have done pretty much nothing to it (Y)

Subbing. This should be fun to follow!

PM me some info on your Civic? I'm currently rocking a B18C1 swapped 97 Coupe.
