Wheel well rattle?

I apologize in advance, reading "help me find my rattle threads" are almost as irritating as posting them. (bang) The CX-5 rattles seem to be fairly predictable, I am hoping someone else has had something similar happen to them.

I have been getting a strange rattle from the driver side of my car, I think it is biased to the front and it sounds like it is coming from the wheel well. I would call it a clunking noise but it is fairly high pitched, but it definitely sounds metallic. It usually happens when driving lower speeds over bumps (like coming off a red light) but I can't get it to regularly repeat itself and sometimes very bumpy roads cause no noise. It has been happening for about 6 months now, and I have noticed that certain spots in town always cause the noise (to the point where I thought it was due to driving over loose manhole covers for the first while). I am coming to terms with the odd rattle or squeak from the car interior but this definitely sounds to be on the outside, possibly from the running gear.

As a thought, I had a traffic pylon get kicked under my car at one point and it dragged for a bit, I think it got caught under the skid plate between the two front wheels. However, nothing seems to be loose there. I mentioned it to the dealership during my last 24,000 km maintenance but they were not able to determine anything (if they even looked).

Check to see if the 3 top shock tower or the center top spring retention bolt are properly torqued.

@paris1 can you share exact locations of this bolts and wich torque should they have. i'm having a noise around that area as well.

Possibly control arm bushing. I had mine replaced, my driveway would regularly cause a squeak. They changed the material and shape of the bushing within the last year or so. There's a TSB about it. If you can get it to repeat, they'll replace it.

Easiest way is to refer you to Corksport's spring replacement instructions here:

Scroll down to page 7; Fig. 2G. The three 14mm shock tower bolts are circled in red and the torque for those is 37-43#. The 17mm upper strut bolt is the black one peeking out in the middle of the other three (or shown in Fig 2i same page) and should be torqued 41-47#.
