what's up guys well hope im posting in the right section but i went to work yesterday and my car was fine. car was parked all day and when i got on the expy to go home @ about 70 mph the front end felt very loose and the steering wheel was shaking i was thinking it might be the brakes but when i step on them it stops . maybe the pads are wearing unevenly? any info would help

thanks

1st guess

have the front wheels balanced, thats the first place to start.
if the wheel doesnt shake when on the brakes, then it shouldnt be pads or rotors, but you could always inspect the pads for uneven wear. if it does shake under braking, its more likely the rotors .

It could be:
Wheel balance (lost a weight/tire belt problem/uneven tire wear)
Warped rotor (yes, even if it stops when you brake)
Worn bearings
Bent wheel
CV joint
Front end alignment

I would rotate the tires first, least expensive assuming you can do it yourself. If you have to pay someone to rotate your tires might as well get them balanced at the same time.

well if its truly a sudden onset as you say, then its likely either a bent wheel or a balance weight fell off

Is this the first time you've gone 70mph and noticed the change? If you go that fast everyday and you didn't notice it until that first time id say you could have thrown a weight or had a tire that could have lost pressure. B

Before you go balancing and aligning there's some simple stuff you can do yourself to check things out:
-for bearing checks get a wheel off the ground, and put your hands at 9 and 3 and push forward with one hand and back with the other, and do the same for 12 and 6. There should be no play

-a flat spot in the tire will be felt at slower speeds after its been sitting in the same spot for extended period and cold air

-look in the wheel well. If there is a clean spot in the same shape of a balancing weight then you can assume that's the problem

Just don't go paying someone to do this stuff right off the bat

yeah checked it out and one of the weights fell off the passenger side tire got em rotated and balenced again and shes back to normal thanks for all the help
