Wheel Questions and Opinions ???

Whats up all :D

I want to get new wheels for my black mica Protege 5.

I have been looking around and reading the board but i have some questions...

I really like the Mp3 RH wheels but i read on the board they are really heavy and for the $$$$ i think lighter and expensive would be better from all the talk on unsprung weight. (Of course if someone was willing to sell me some for a good price i might consider it) So... I want something sorta similar like the SSR GT1's or the Nakayama Phantom GTR's(which i'm guessing are knockoffs). But what tires should i get to get so i can do without rub/speedometer issues??

SSR 17x7 offset 45 or 48
Nakayama Phantom GTR 17x7 offset ??

I looked at the recipe post but  . Also the SSR comes in a 16x7 size But I'm guessing i couldn't reuse my stock tires with that???

Also where is a good place to buy from???
:)

OK, first off you have to understand what sizes you are looking for:

7" wide rim:= +45mm and up
7.5" wide rim: +48mm and up
if you DO NOT lower the car, then you can get away with about 3mm less.

AS far as where to get rims, you could always check local shops. IF you are going online, you can check ebay, Discount Tire, Wheelmax. My suggestion is look all around and find some wheels you like, then contact ARD MP5 (Rishie) and tell him what you are looking for and I am pretty sure he can help you out or at least lead you down the right path.

Thanks for the suggestions :)

I am not planning on lowering my car. Been there done that on my last car. So.. If i go with a 7" wide rim is it better to have a higher offset or lower ??

And anyone out there how big a deal is it to increase unsprung weight about 3lbs. Because the Nakayama rims are the same look (except hyperblack) as the SSR GT1's less money but 19lbs instead of the stock 16lbs??

Also it would be great if anyone could answer my question about the stock tires and 16x7 rims

Thanks

Hey 7th_Shadow

I just got my SSR GT1's last week. I got the 17" x 7" with +45 offset. I put on some Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Postions in 215/40-17's. I haven't lower my car yet. So if you want to see what it will look like here is a link to the "Show us your rims" thread.

I also checked with tirerack.com and it shows that are OEM tires can be mounted on rims 5-1/2" thru 7" wide. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the link DaveB :)

Your car looks great ! You have good taste ;)
your info was really helpful.

I'm curious any difference driving on the SSR's ??
