Wheel bearing issues (2016 CX-5)

Hi Folks
Just wondering if you folks have had any trouble with your wheel bearings? I am on my 7th bearing. I have a 2016 CX5 with about 160K / I have replaced all 4 wheel bearings and abviously some more than once.

2016.5 touring with 190k miles, a 2019 signature with 103k miles and no issues.

We had a 2015 mazda3 touring that needed a right front wheel bearing but I consider that one my own fault for not noticing it loosened up.

I've not really heard of any bearing problems on the cx5

We haven't heard much about CX-5 wheel bearing failures. Not an issue really and there are a lot of CX-5 owners on this forum. From what you are describing:
1) You didn't mention the time spanning these failures/replacements but be aware that some aftermarket wheel bearings only last a few years. The OEM bearings are the best. Same with CV axles and other components but that's not the issue here.
2) how many were front bearings that have a retaining nut that needs proper torquing. This isn't the place to jump on the end of the breaker bar and call it good.
3) What is the mode of failure? Noise, loose hub or overheat or?
You could elaborate some and provide more information with your findings and experience.

2016 CX5 GT with 160K miles no wheel bearing issues. We did replace the front A arms recently as the bushings wore out. Previously, five years ago also had to replace the belt tensioner. Other than that, the car has been a gem.

FWIW, My old S-10 had 9 sets of front wheel bearings. Tried everything, replaced everything and in different combinations. Even used expensive grease. IMHO, something is wrong with your vehicle to cause it to wear bearings that fast.

Hmm. Is this the type of thing that is checked periodically? I guess the maintainance schedule does say to check for loose fasteners.
It had about 100k miles on it (my nephew now drives it and over 200k miles now 👍).

I do my own maintenance and when I lube/oil/filter/rotate I inspect everything and manipulate the tires/wheels looking for looseness in suspension components and I didn't pick up on it until the right front bearing wear got worse.

The thing I noticed first was a single "click" sound on the first brake application after driving. (What I later figured out was the play in the bearing would shimmy the brake rotor slightly and push the brake pads every so slightly away from the rotors. That first brake application after driving a bit would push the pads back in and that was the "click"). I also had some vibration in the steering wheel but I wrongly attributed that to the tires nearing end of life.

In the front, the big nut retaining the hub/bearing assembly onto the drive axle isn't an item normally checked after it's torqued to spec. Any "play" usually develops from bad bearing.
