Whats wrong with my P5?

On and On
:
02 P5 & 01 Audi S4
It's making a funny sound that just started yesterday. It seems to be coming from the passenger side air vent(by the door). The sound is almost like an air leak or whistle type sound but speed has nothing to do with it. The only thing that increases the sound level is acceleration.

I havent done anything lately to warrant a new noise.

Anybody wanna help???

Just somehting that sounds really stupid but what happens if the radio is off?

Kartboy Bushings?

I know in addition to the noise I get when in gear and no throttle is a whine I get which is relative to the amount of acceleration I give.

I agree with the bushing. Sounds like a whistle when you let off the accelerator. I got it.

I've got the whistling sound too. It's only audible really at the lower speeds. And for the bushings...theyre sitting in the cupholder, waiting to be installed :) so thats not the problem- the car is stock

does it sound like a tire loosing air?

nope, its a loud annoying whistle

Kartboy Bushings?

no, I have had those in for a long time.

the radio was off when i heard the noise (cant hear myslef think with it on)

I think I have the same problem as milmoejoe

I noticed that when I let off the gas after accelerating hard it makes a woosh sound almost like a very quiet BOV.

Anyone?

the rav4 my mom is driving is hving the same problem, it started since she got a bump by the other car... there is no quick fix

does anyone have an idea of what i can do to stop the noise?

I dont want to bring it to the stealership. They will blame it on my intake (like they did b4)

Get a passenger in the car and see where they place the problem. It might just help.

Does your car have AC?

Most of the cars that have AC have the controls actuated by vaccuum, and the Vaccuum is taken from the intake (Turbo cars have the Brake Booster as the source, since they never see boost)

As the engine Revs, the Vaccuum in the system changes, and it changes also in the heater/ac controls.

The whistling sound may come from a leak in your heater/ac controls tubes, wich is a b**** to find. There's a way to find it, but I'm not willing to discuss it openly since it could be dangerous for somebody who does'nt know what he is doing. (Explosions and stuff! )

The Dealer won't touch it, they'll blame it on ANYTHING else than that.

Play around with your heater controls to see if anything changes, or find the tube leading inside the car (Vaccuum source) and unplug it from the intake (or wherever it's plugged) to see if that cures it.

Happened to me while I was reconstructing my vaccuum system, I basically had the same problem and it was caused by a leak in the heater control tubes.

BTW, all of that is supposing the P5's have vaccuum operated controls, if not, disregard! ;)
