My buddy is looking at a 2002 MP5 (He really likes mine and wants one)..anyhow, the exterior and interior is in excellent shape, no scratches, clean carfax report, all in all a very clean car. However, under the hood almost every nut/bolt, bracket, mount is rusty? This is a car that would have been winter driven, however, EVERY bracket, bolt etc is rusty...any ideas or has anyone seen/have this? seems kinda odd to me...the only thing I can think of is it was sitting maybe??

Thanks,

Winters are harsh on our cars. High salt winters that is. A lot of my underhood is pretty corroded as well.

Yup - it's pretty normal if the previous owner didn't do too much under the hood. If there's heat, it just makes the surface rust worse (like the rotors).

It is very common for cars from Eastern Canada where a lot of Salt is used on the roads. Before I bought my 02 MP5 I came across a lot of cars with rust like that, as the dealers had brought them in from Eastern Canada as it was cheaper than getting them from Vancouver due to the rust. I ended up buying one in vancouver that had not been out of the province and has no rust at all. My buddy/mechanic said he would not work on my car if I got one that was rusted like that as it would make working on it a lot harder.
