2002 mazda protege 2.0 mt
i am looking to purchasing a new car in the ext few months but dont know what to get. its between a 04 neon srt4, 2007 mazdaspeed 3 , 2004 wrx,or an 04 evo8

not the neon they ride like shitt and between the other three i guess it depends on what your lookin for

i am actually looking for power, handling and reliability so i guess that would cross out the srt4 but im leaning more towards evo or wrx but i do like the speed3 interior

The Neon SRT4 is going to be my next car. Who says it's not reliable? A lot of the SRT4s break down because the owners don't know how to take care of the car. I heard, however, that the evo is high maintenance car, so expect to replace a lot of things on it.

Those are all great choices you listed, but if I were you, I'd go for the MS3. It's the newest out of your choices, they're reliable, fast, and handle great.

i say wrx because i think it has the best chance of not being beat to s*** by the previous owner because it is the car that is likely to have the most "normal" previous owner. though didn't they start the 2.5 in 2005? i'd rather have the 2.5 engine. i'm very wary of buying a performance car like that used, even more so if you're planning on having it as your primary mode of transportation

their are so many variables like mileage, condition, if they have been modded or not, and of course personal preference

You're looking at dangerous territory buying any of them used....but out of those I'd say the subie. If it's bone stock and after inspection doesn't look like someone has added anything they're awesome as far as reliability. Subarus are known for going on and on forever which is why they keep their value so well. My fiance's forester is at 74K and it runs like the first day it came off the lot. I will say in the '04 years I much prefer the evo's styling, but as far as reliability and fun factor I don't think you could go wrong with the subie.

I don't know why everyone is so afraid of getting a used, "sporty" car. I'm sure you have good judgement. If the car seems sketchy, don't buy it. A car fax and personal inspection should help you determine whether or not the car you're looking at is a good candidate.

Just make sure to test drive all of them and pick out which one you like the most.

Think all four are great cars. Honestly drive them all first if you haven't already and see which one is more to your liking.

The Speed3 and the WRX (not STI) will both be reasonable on insurance. Evo8 is outrageous on insurance, as is an STI. For me that made my decision. I was going to sell the MSP and buy an Evo but the difference in insurance was far too much. You should really look into that before you make a decision. The difference for me was about $300/month from the MSP to an Evo! I have no tickets, no accidents, and I'm 27 so insurance is cheap on the MSP and Speed6, $178/month for both with full coverage and low deductibles. My quote for the Evo alone was over $400/month!

No to the Neon just cause I don't like the appearance.

fwiw my ins when i had an evo only went down around $80/mo when changing to the normal 3. the 3 was def cheaper but nowhere near as big of a difference as i was expecting. i would imagine the MS3 would have been even less of a difference. definitely something to look into and with a few different companies as well as each company will give you a different rate but don't just rule the car out based on what others say about insurance

That's true I never got a quote for a speed3. So it may be higher than my MSP as well. I know I pay more for the Speed6 than the MSP, so t makes since.

Like I said, I would look into that before you make any decisions.

I may not like them, but for the money it's hard to beat an srt-4. Can be pretty fast on the cheap.

That's my reason behind them. I like loud, little, fast cars... a loud and rough ride wouldn't bother me much... at least for now. And they are pretty cheap to mod + can handle gobs of power.

I would go for the evo. They'll be reliable aslong as u keep up with it, well that can be said about all 4 cars.

I would get an SRT-4, personally.

+1 My uncle just got one and I like it even with its problems (previous owner modded it and demodded it).

From what I have read you can go upto 500fwhp on those things without even having to go into chaning any internal bits! They are pretty stout little cars. They also don't ride to bad when compared to my MSP.

Also it also depends on which seats you get on if its a good ride or not. The viper inspired seats ae great but not on a long ride. The ones with air bags in the seats are more comfy. The best year out of the SRT4's to get would be the 04!

a fwd car with that much power is pretty much useless below 35mph. Mazdas and neons dont have the greatest traction when they are stock never mind modded
