What type of gas do you have?

A friend of mine made me think of something the other day. I usually get wawa premium gas (it says 93 octane) but the day I got the flash done I needed gas so I went to exxon and got their premium that day the car was like new more powerful than before and it was great. However it's been a couple fill ups since then and I've been getting wawa gas ever since that time and haven't noticed the power that I had the first day with the flash. Then a friend of mine said tonight when she was looking for gas when I told her wawa was up the street she said "wawa's gas is water" and now I'm not saying she knows a lot about gas or anything but it definately made me think of maybe that's why I haven't noticed the power ever since. Any thoughts on if this could be true? or any preferences on what gas stations to go to?

That's what my other friend told me he said that I've probably just gotten used to the flash already so I just don't notice it anymore.

ya, colder is better for car performance. i was thinking of getting some LEADED 110 octane this weekend at the michigan meet for $3.49/gal until i remembered it woulda ruined all my O2 sensors. woulda been sweet for a 100 shot or 75 shot!!

As far as I know... all gas is the same (as far as grades go). Whether it's 93 Hess, 93 Conoco, 93 Exxon, insert local gas station 93 fuel here. The only difference is in the additives that each brand has. The additives have no real effect on octane rating. All the gas in your area comes from the same refinery (for you guys in Jersey, I think it's the Hess refinery in Port Reading).

One of the things I've been told (it sounds true, but I've never asked anybody in the gas station so I don't know) is that if you fill up either during or up to 12 hours after the gas station's tanks get filled up by the tanker trucks, you have a good chance of getting water in your tank. After the 12 hours, the water settles below the pumps so it stays in the tank.

Again, I don't know if I've been fed a line of bulls*** or not, but it sounds like it could be true.

It just maybe that you noticed the jump because you still knew how it felt pre-flash and you've gotten used to it now. I know I have... extra horsepower and torque is addicting and I think I'm suffering from just that. I NEED MORE!!!!!!

Edit: You guys are lucky. The highest we get in Montana is 91 octane :bs:

It's not water that'd you'd get in you're gas that you should be worried about. It's all the sediment that gets stirred up when they fill the stations tanks. Water shouldn't be in any gas (of course there are those shady gas stations) but you should have any problem with major chains

the rumor you heard about the 12 hours thing is not true. I work with fuel everyday and they do very rigorous test on the fuel before they dump it from the trucks into their tanks (at least they are supposed to). Just wanted to clear that up for you. Later.

I can get 94 oct. at Sunoco and they also have cam2 stations which is 100, around my area (CT). They have a web site where you can get locations of higher oct.

I wouldn't. I've ran both grades and there's 0 noticible difference. Oh, and yeah, WTF is wawa gas. I'd never go to any station named "wawa".

Thanks for the replies guys, haha wawa was orginally like a convience store but they have ones that have gas stations attached to them. They are the cheapest gas around me. When gas was cheap premium was $1.45 there while it was like $1.60 everywhere else around here. Yeah there are some gas stations too that offer 94 octane but I don't know if there would be that much of a difference so I never get it. But anyway thanks for the help guys.

in florida we have 93 octane. best you can get. id advise dont go to little mom and pop gas stations. go to a citgo, mobil, those types you know. i just dont trust the little guys.

Ok for the record let me clear up some points. My dad owns a few gas stations so I picked up some things down the road of life. First all of our stations have a active monitoring system. Basically what it does is monitor levels in the tanks. If it detects any water is sends out a alarm to the cashier and shuts off the pumps. Second all of the pumps have filters on them. They look like big ass oil filter that is just incase something comes up the pipe.

Also like someone already said ALL GAS IS THE SAME! The only difference is the additives that they add after the tankers fill up with the gas. We carry 87 - 89 - 93 octane gas. Regular (87) is always blue and Super (93) is always red.

The gas station down the road has turbo blue. Which is a unleaded 110 octane gas. I don't get how that stuff is unleaded and such a high octane. But I wouldn't want to run that stuff with stock internals. They even have a special nozzle on the gas pump. It won't fit in a regular gas fill hole. Plus the huge sign that says "For race cars ONLY". I told the guy there that i wanted to mix some with my regual gas and he told me that it would F up my engine. Does anyone have any experience with the stuff.

You may not feel the difference short term (1/4 mile short enough?), but long term it will definitely pay off.
