I would think it to be better to just tell the truth to the officer and not beat around the bush like in steps "Do you know why I stopped you?" and "Do you know how fast you were going?"

with a few years in the law enforcement field myself I will say that you need to create a enviorment that feels safe. As the police officer approaches your car..he has no clue really who you are..yes hes ran a plate check and has some basic information..but whos in the car..what are his or hers intentions...they encounter all kinds of crazy people..so police tend to be have thier guard up naturaly..its just part of life. So with the interior lights on in your car at night..both hands on the steering wheel..your car is stopped and parked in a safe manner engine off. you are already off to a good start. Now you must be honest and dont act like the cop is stupid. show him respect and tell the truth....it really can go only 2 ways from there..ticket or no ticket...and thats really all you can do.

I mentioned this on the (OTHER more crude site) LOL.. I got pulled over twice in 5 weeks with the MS3 . the first time was when I was coming back from the track on my first outting, rushing not to be late for the 10:30pm start of shift. I saw the headlights on the other side of the road from about 1/4 mile away and slowed down from 70 to 50 TOO late .. I mentioned I was late for work at the Federal prison, showed him my FOP member card and he didn't even run my info just said slow it down OK. I was honest with him saying Yes I know I was going a little fast, it was a rural road. 5 weeks later I am coming back from taking my 83 year old Aunt to dinner. She was in my back seat and my Bro was in my front seat. Lights come on and this hispanic female cop walks up and says ( In a stern tone , I was following you for 2 miles and you acellerated from 30 to 60 really fast then looks at my poor old aunt and says , why doesn't she have on her seat belt?? I give the copper my info and another cop going the other way turns around like it was a big drug BUST and putts his take down lights on me. I am like WTF/// I tried to help my aunt find her seat belt but after not being able to reach it, I open the door and get out. I think guns were drawn by then and over a loud speaker I here (GET BACK IN THE CAR) OH I failed to mention I had put both hand out the window showing I had no weapons when I was first pulled over , yea I was being a JERK. The male cop walks up and says you ever have any problems with in police before, hand on his glock up clipped, I said no but with all the cops getting shot as of late I didn't wanna get shot reaching for my DL and insurance card. and I ask the male cop to open the rear passanger door and help my aunt with her belt. Don't you know she was sitting in the shoulder strap connected to the receiver. LSS the woman comes back and says , I heard all the excuses I am giving you a warning, If I ever catch you speeding again I am issuing you a ticket. My aunt was pissed and was about to say something. so 2 strikes in the speed, I hope the next time it's a foul ball and not strike 3

yeah, most of that stuff is utter BUNK. i would love to see some CA driver try that $#!# here. they would just laugh at you. then make the stop as much of an inconvenience as they can, or worse.
were you speeding? then you deserve a ticket ... be polite, don't do a lot of diggin' around, turn the car off, put your hands on the wheel, be polite, ask permission before you do ANYTHING. use yes sir, no sir. be respectful, act like you deserve it. pretend you just got busted by your mom or dad... no wait. scratch that, your parents are probably waaaay to soft on you... pretend you just got busted by MY dad.
you might just get a warning, if you play it cool.... otherwise, take your ticket, pay it, take defensive driving, or go to court.
oh, and texas DPS pulls you over... you are getting a ticket, trust me.
just part of driving... around houston, i look at it as just another #$%@# tax. speeding is one thing i am guilty of WHENEVER i am behind the wheel... 'cept in the neighborhood. i don't drive dangerous, i just drive fast....
i try to break the ice a bit sometimes... 'do you know how fast you were going?'
'what do i win if i guess right? can i get out of this one?'
or, 'where is the fire, son?'
'in my pants if i don't get to that service station bathroom up the road in a few seconds!'
or, 'i clocked you at 95 miles per hour'
'yes sir, but i wasn't planning on being out that long'
or, 'do you know how fast you were going?'
'waaaay to fast to be looking at some silly speedmeter. or for you lurking lurking behind that fence.'
remember, LEOs are human. and just like any other human, they can be your best friend, your worst enemy, polite, uptight, or the biggest DICK you've ever met in your life....

Be nice to cops, even if (and 90% of the time) they're dicks. Doing there job, which sucks ass. And you most likely broke the law anyway...

I got pulled over in West Virginia back roads and the cop approached the car in normal demeanor hand on belt and all. My calm and polite responses got him to loosen up and get him on my side. He then told me something I completely respect and has changed my view of speeding. He basically said to slow it down to stop wasting his time with b.s. speeding when he should be focusing on getting real troublemakers off the street. He let me off with a warning after that statement was well received.

Uh no, the military ID usually DOESN'T work. ESPECIALLY if you get pulled in a military town like Jacksonville or Fayetteville. The cops are always dealing with military and some of them hate dealing with military personnel all the time.For those who support what we do, thank you, but the support some places of america shows us is bad. Military gets treated like s*** in some places that are away from military bases. The ID doesnt hurt to whip out incase you have that Military Vet Cop, but usually thats not the case.
Military ID won't do much good in Tidewater VA either. Then again seeing the way many of our young enlisteds drive, I can't blame the cops for not cutting many breaks. People who think a car moving over 100 feet per second is a toy and driving that machine is a game don't deserve a break, regardless of their chosen path in life. I appreciate what our servicemen do, but it's not a free pass to be stupid and endanger people's lives.

Exactly. I got pulled in Emporia VA on I-95. Military Id was just another piece of plastic and he handed it back to me. And yes. its usually the young enlisted Privates - Specialists that create the image of crazy military drivers lol.

I agree just beign upfront about it will often times get the officer to calm down. However putting your keys on the dash or on top of your car will get you some funky looks from the police... Trust me I have received a few. Even the one that asked me why I did that thought it was strange. After I explained to him why. I still got a ticket but the officer was friendly at least!
The only warnings I have ever received was in Texas when I was living in Irving(DFW area) and Amarillo. So I wouldn't say that about Texas law inforcement.

well ive had a noise ordinance ticket, and a 65 in a 40.. got out of the noise ordinance one since i had my exhaust on by the court date..$376 for the 65 in a 40 ticket lol

My license are curently suspended...1050$ speeding ticket, Nothing could had saved me that day. Oh well, getting my license back in 15 days. Cant wait but im gonna be driving safely from now on.
But yeah I said i didnt know what speed I was going at. Atleast they didnt tow my car. That was nice of the officer, he letted my friend drive it home for me.
