What tires for this wheel?

der der... i'm retarded... i just checked rishie's fitment recipe and the matrix allows for a +42 offset rim to be fitted to a 205 tire. you're good. you'll barely clear, according to him, but it's still clear.

Yeah, I saw that but it's the "barely clear" that I'm worried about... :(

i don't see how spacers will help. i mean, a spacer is something that adds space between the rim and the bolts on your rotor. so i guess you'll increase rubbing chances if you put a spacer on there. i don't see how a spacer can take away the distance between the tire and the fender. hmm... no more confuse the tonka.

Spacers

Spacers are something you definitely don't want. If you put spacers between the wheel mounting face and the hub, you will move the wheels outward closer to the fender edge. This will have the same effect as mounting wheels with less + offset on your car, something you DON'T want to do as you will increase the chance of tire/fender contact. A wheel with more positive offset will have its centerline displaced toward the inside of the car away from the fender edge.

So what exactly does wheel rub feel like when you're driving? Will it vibrate the car or tear off the bumper or something? What kind of damage can happen to the car and tire? Just wondering, usually I'm the only one driving it but if it "just barely" makes it at +42 then me thinks there may be some rubbin' when it's loaded. Any toughts?

P.S.
Your advice has been great, guys! Thanks! :D

clownphish,

I just read your post about your conversation with the guy from dragonwheels.com. With reference to his comment about the spacers, he obviously doesn't know what he is talking about. I don't think you should rely on his advice. I know that with 17 x 7.5" wheels, + 45 mm or greater offset is advised to prevent tire/fender contact. With a 17 x 7" wheel you might or might not have a problem with a + 42 mm offset. Rishie points out that a P5 needs more + offset than the sedan to avoid clearance problems.

Tire contact can run from minor rubbing, depending on load, to ripping up the tire tread depending on severity. I'm sorry I can't give you a more definitive answer since I personally run 16" wheels on my sedan.

rishie knows what hes talkin about.. sounds like the other guy doesnt.. pm the man an see whats up.. i think he can still get adr wheels..

rubbing sounds funny. it sounds like something is rubbing on your car. it'll slowly but surely rub a wear spot on your tire, eventually ripping it depending on how sever the rub is. it's a god awful noise.
