What tires for this wheel?

I just checked Rishie's fitment and I'm not sure on some wheels I'm looking at what tires would most likely come with them. They are 17"x7" Black ADR Demonya's 5 lug, 5x114.3 with +42 offset. I'm worried about the offset because I'm not sure which tires would most likely come with this or which I SHOULD get so that this works: 215/40/17; 215/35/18; or 205/40/17?

If I have just presented some conflicting info here I apologize, I'm a noob at this and don't yet know how to read tires. Thanks in advance for your help! :D

you'll want 205's... and then pray every time you have people sitting back there. when i had +42 offset wheels on my car, they rubbed when i had people in the back and was taking corners. not taking them hard, either... just taking them. good luck.

if your car isnt going to be lowered you should be ok..205/40/17 i think would work but you may get some rubbing in the back with a fully loaded grocery getter.. BUT.. if u plan on lowering your car.. dont buy those wheels.. it wont work unless u get it custom bored..
ive got a 1.5 inch drop with 18x7.5 gracing sekis, with a 48 mm offset and i get no rubbies -=).. if this tien group buy goes thru ill be looking to get rid of my springs.. and u were so easy to deal with if u want em ill give ua great price on em.. like i said.. it all depends on the tien group buy tho. -=)

215/35/18 will not fit. 18'' on 17'' is a no no.

First number is how wide the tire is.

Second number is hight in % from the width.

Thanks tonka! Another question on that note, remember I'm a noob so be gentle: Is it possible to change an offset? Or is this something that is fixed and unchangable? *meekly* Errr... what is offset? :D

yeah, you can always bore them out so they fit better. honestly, i have no idea what an offset is in real terms. all i know is it gives the amount of distance between the rotor and the wheel well when you mount the wheels. the smaller the #, the less "deep" the wheels will mount. if you go too high, you will rub the inside of your wheel well. if you go too low, you rub the outside of your wheel well (fender). that's my understanding at least. if i'm wrong, please correct me someone.

mypfizzle you continue to be such a stellar guy! :D Hmmm... so if I want the wheels and I want to avoid the rubbies what do I have to do? Is it a must to get them custom bored and how, pray tell, does one go about this? Right now lowering isn't on the horizon b/c I'm trying to talk the hubby into letting me get a rim & tire pkg since I need new tires anyways and I want 17"s. So is this possible or do I need to go fall in love with yet ANOTHER set of wheels? :'(

it might be more cost effective to go with another swet of wheels. some places charge a little, some places charge a lot. when i had my wheels that rubbed, the machine shop wanted $75 per wheel to bore. and since rotating tires is important, that would have been $300. so yeah... no thanks on that one. get in touch with the rishie. the rishie will help you. he is the god of wheels and suspension and jdm parts and good service. he's got the biggest list of wheels that will fit the p5 EXACTLY since he's got one and tries crazy stuff with his car. i think he's also got a boring machine if you are totally set on these wheels. i'm sure he can do better than what you are about to pay.

Cool, I'll get w/Rishie then. Last set I was in love with he didn't carry but now I've got my eyes on gunmetal/black with polished lip or, in this case, polished spokes. Something must be polished! :D Thanks again for your help guys!

The offset is the distance in millimeters between the centerline of the wheel and its mounting surface. As such, it's a fixed dimension that can't be changed. To find which tire/wheel combination will give you the least speedometer error go to :

Hey, sweet link goldstar! If I go with the 205's I'm looking at a 0.9% difference. Which according to the calc means when the speedo reads 60mph I'm actually doing 59.4mph - I can live with that! Now to Rishie to see if this can work.... :D

here are my wheels.. 18 x 7.5 48 mm offset.. hyperblack polished lip/members/mypfizzle/apfizmoneyshot.jpg
if you want 17s.. i think 5zigen makes a really nice hyperblack with polished lip.. get at rishie about it

Ok, I just called dragonwheels.com where I first saw them and they "guaranteed" they would not rub. The guy I spoke with suggested spacers if I was unsure. What do you all think of spacers? Are they a practical solution or just bubkus? Thanks! :D

Edit: Oh, and the guy said that it comes w/Kumho 711 (?) 205's... good? Yay/nay?

Re: Re: What tires for this wheel?

i know a person with a p5 in texas has 18" rota subzero's that had the offset fixed. let me see if i can find the thread.

der der... i'm retarded... i just checked rishie's fitment recipe and the matrix allows for a +42 offset rim to be fitted to a 205 tire. you're good. you'll barely clear, according to him, but it's still clear.

So you guys don't think I need some spacers? WTF are spacers anyway? I mean I get the concept but are they practical or just some sort of wheely dealer bs? :D
