i don't understand why semi drivers are not responsible for their tires. i see big chunks of semi rubber on the road all the time. when they blow a tire they just leave the rubber wherever it lands. i think tires should be RFID tagged or marked somehow so we can track who owns them. that way they could find the drivers who leave their rubber all over the place.

Its ridiculous.
And they may not know that they have lost a tire...But It sucks for the rest of us who get damage from them and it costs us money to repair that damage.

whatever you do man, my wife works for a colision repair shop out of kinston. make sure your deductable is $500 and thats all you have to pay. the shop (A and L bodyshop) fixed mine as it is today. high quality work, the best ive seen in nc hands down. all the lines are perfect and the paint looks better than stock. pm me if you want more info, i'll be glad to help out.

Semi's are so dangerous. I was on 95 in CT yesterday and was one about 150 ft away from me going 70mph. All of a sudden a massive sheet of ice and snow flew off the top of it and crashed onto the highway. Thank god no one was right behind this guy. But I do think there should be more regulations regarding safety with these effin' things. I've always been a fan giving semi's their own highway stretches which would be expesive as s*** to do, but hey at least it would save lives and a s*** load of unneeded accidents. This is why i've always been a fan of parkways...the semis can't fit under the bridges!

well, chances are when one tire goes on a semi, they dont notice immediately. theres 17 of them left to keep the truck on the road safely...
so put sensors in them like we have in our tires. they will notice a flashing light or alarm eh?

That's not usually blown tire. It's usually tire re-tread tearing off.

Exactly. Its a de-lamination of the tire tread off the casing. And they don't usually even have a tire pressure drop when it happens! It sucks really bad, but the poor truckers have no clue.
The blame, if you want to put it on someone, is the poor job of the tire retreader. A good retread should be just like stock, since it is vulcanized rubber and thus should become one with the tire casing. But if the tire isn't cleaned right, or if it is a bad casing, or if 100's of other variables aren't met, then the tire won't hold up long-term. Again, not the trucker's fault, but the tire guy's....and a lot of Murphy's law and bad luck, too.

I think all that fricken tax money we pay for the highway systems via "safty" inspections and "emmisions" tests should at least pay for some state/federal program with say, the DOT (or whatever your respective state program is called) to just drive the highways and clean them of rubber/debris/what have you. I mean, its not like any of the money is just sitting around not doing anything. Oh wait...

i think it's also to do with the fact that most roads are "under construction" for months on end with just cones and desurfaced roadway to show for it...then get paved in like a week...+_+;

I feel your pain too. I had my car for 4 days and became really good friends with a patch of ice, a curb and fire hydrant all at the same time. Messed up the fender, bumper, and the driver side mirror has scratches on it. I was gonna go the auto exe route but I just cant fork out over a grand for a bumper & then getting it painted. It is a nice bumper though.
