what kind of gas mileage does your p5 get?

Normally ill get 320-380 to a tank depending how I drive

Due to a dent in the tank mine only holds about 12 gallons

Nope mp3 with Sri runing 75-85 mph with windows down from va beach to Staunton

Mp3 Ecu helps a lot some people claim 2-4 mpg. Autos suck for mileage with these cars

With the mp3 ecu. Is it true that you have to run premium? Also are you running different intake manifold or stock p5 with the runners?

93 will will help with power and mileage but I normally run 87 and take the 1-2 mpg loss

Mp3 intake manifold is the same as the p5 except it got a VTCS delete from factory

I think premium is the only option. Tweety can answer 100% I'm wondering if its a worthwhile upgrade. It'd be $150? (or $250) to flash, and then sourcing a 626 single runner intake mani. If its worth it for a bit of mpgs, I'd be game for that. I could try and find a junker p5 and rip that ecu out to get it flashed so I can switch relatively quickly if I wanted to. Idk, just pondering.

Edit: ninja'd...

As stated I usually run 87 all it does is retard timing to around p5 specs

626 intake does not help an na car with power or mpg it flows a bit better for the fi guys on top end but most na guys report no change or less power

Oh, never mind then. If I ran the mp3 ecu, id just have to take the runners for the weird butterfly system out... (Not even going to try and get the name right. One with the V) for better airflow. And since the mp3 ecu wouldn't use it. But thats neither here nor there at this point.

im assuming that you would have to remove the butterflies just because the mp3 ecu would not recognize it. correct?

They'd just be obstructing the manifold. But either leave the rod in there or take it out and seal the holes so there isn't a leak.

You don't have to remove them as they're open by default except cold starts its just emissions junk kinda like egr valve. With the mp3 Ecu you can actually remove the actuator and all, if you do this with a regular Ecu you will get a cel for it. Not that it matters as you can't see it anyway

Removing it is maybe a 1 whp gain but supposedly the mp3 Ecu is a 5-7 whp gain and every little bit helps with an underpowered car like the protege

at least in not the only one who thinks it needs more POWWWAAAA

I'm really curious to try out the mp3 ecu now... I should just buy an mp3 to be honest!

i just wonder why mazda put slightly different engines in them. you would think they could use same engines with no vcts and just put a better ecu in the mp3 like they did if theyre unnecessary in the p5 why have them in the first place?

How is it that you get almost 400 on a tank on the highway goin 75-80?! I get so much better mileage in the city, cuz when I'm going home 75 leaves the engine roaring at 3500 or higher! Don't even get me started on when I hit SD and start goin 80-85! I'm gonna be seafoam and tune up my engine tho, so hopefully that helps, but in town I've been averaging 27 (short gears means I'm in 5th goin 35) and 24 or 25 with city/highway mixed.

Sidenote: How did you guys get the Fuelly widget in your sig?

I get between 29-32 in the city depending on how I drive. Will get 34-35 with highway only.

Go to your Fuelly page and on the right side of the page it says "Share your MPG"...click on the link below/beside it; copy and paste into your signature :)

Ah thanks! Now it's really lookin like it's time for a tune-up! I was probs railing the gas and idling a lot, but I only managed 23.1 on my last tank (really low for me). So hopefully that helps a lot!

There are 0 differences internally in the motor between the regular 2.0 protege an the mp3 except for a slightly modified intake manifold. Even the speed has the same motor with the exception of the main bearing support plate which just has a fitting for the oil return

King of spades you say that now but sometimes all the extra attention can get annoying, but I guess a big guy in a bright yellow car will always draw attention

first off that was funny and yeah i was referring to the intake manifolds being different, i wonder why they couldnt just make them the same since the p5 and the mp3 were both suppose to be the sporty ones of the bunch

yeah sounds like tune up time to me i just got this car from my dad when he got the 2014 6 and we did a tune up on it a few months before that, used the iridium ix ngk plugs i would recommend those. theyre good plugs and last a hell of a long time (up to 100,000 miles) as compared to our oe material coppers (about 30,000 miles max) i would run seafoam through the brake booster vacuum line as well, there was a great write up on how to do this on the nissan xterra forum i used to be on but basically same procedure on the p5.
(do this outside or in a well ventilated place)Basically you find your brake booster on drivers side firewall and pull the hose off of it (may require pliers or a screwdriver depending on your hose clamp) and go turn the car on after this hold the line where you can pour the seafoam in. Pour the seafoam slowly and at a steady pace while the car idles, it will try to die on you if you pour too much so dont pour fast. shut off the car after you put between 1/3 and 2/3 can in (i wouldnt do more than this much the first time) shut car off and reconnect hose now let it sit for about 10-30minutes and then go drive it will smoke alot for awhile when doing it and while driving so make sure your neighbors wont mind and drive until smoke stops then your good and engine is clean.

I picked up some Bosch platinum plugs for after I seafoam. The only thing is that I have to do an oil change after that, cuz I've heard that seafoam not only leaves a ton of deposits in the oil (as it should) but it does other weird things. So because of that and my weird work schedule, I'm just trying to find time to do it, being as this will by my first oil change that I've done myself. Right now the plan is for tomorrow, since I don't work until late. As for the smoking, I'm in a giant apartment complex with about 50 separate buildings near campus, and most of them are empty (since all the leases ended within the last week) or filled by college kids. So I think I'll be fine as long as the landlord doesn't drive by. Are you supposed to drive it around, or could you just leave it idling and revving the engine in the parking lot? I've heard it both ways, even though I'll probs end up driving anyways.

P5 is just a hatch back protege no differences

Mp3 was supposed to be the first speed but was too slow

Msp is the same as the mp3 aside from larger brakes and the turbo

VTCS is emissions system that allowed the protege to get the ulev? Certification
