What is this rusty part?

Hi, I live in the GTA area of Ontario. I bought a brand new 2024 CX-5 GT from a Mazda dealer last October. Today, when I opened the hood and found a rusty part (see attached pictures). What is this? Why is it so rusty on such a new car? Do I need to repair/replace it? If I do, should it be covered by the warranty? Thank you!

Solution
High pressure fuel pump. Yes it shouldnt be rusty on a new car.

It's rusty because most likely it had contact with water (may be even salty water) for a prolonged period.

Maybe they washed the engine and left the water or something else is at play here..Ask the dealer on why and what to do next.

My guess, potentially driven for extended periods on salty roads. Perhaps even driving behind a tractor trailer on wet salty roads coating even components under the hood?

be interested to hear what they say. I had to go out and look at mine and still shiny new looking at 36000 miles...I can't see how salt spray from the road would even get up there.

It's possible that a corrosive cleaning agent was used. For example, high alkalinity doesn't play well with some metals.

How did it look when you bought the car new in Oct? Where do you park it? outside?
Yes, I checked the entire engine bay when I got it and everything looked good - no rust, everything looked shiny and new. I parked the car outside, but I have another car that I've had for over 10 years that I also parked outside and never had this problem.

Used to live in a northern salt road state. All my Nissan trucks 2 1986.5 and 1 1992 all have every hose clamp and bolt coated with rust under the hood. Come to think of it 🤔 most the underside was rusted as well on the Nissan Hardbody D21 trucks.

🤔 Looks like the dipstick and oil fill plug just like in every Mazda engine
That engine cover looks different than 2013-2023. I'm seeing other differences as well. I want to know more about what Mazda did to the 2024 SkyActiv engines. Stealth changes bug me.

Is it just me, or does the whole engine/under hood area in those photos look grimy?? If so whats the go with that?
Grimy? Doesn't look out of line for going through a winter where the roads are salted/chemically treated. There's a thing called a radiator that allows air (and road dirt) to pass through the fins into the engine compartment. The aluminum end cap on the vacuum pump looks like it's been exposed to something corrosive.
