Yikes. that doesn't look like fun to replace. I can call my contacts monday at mazda and see what the deal is. if it's just the bolt, you can throw a bolt in there. that was the hardest bolt to get out when I upgraded to the bronzeoil shifter bushings.

I could put in a bolt I have on hand, but it would be smaller diameter causing play in the linkage. I would assume that the dealer would be the only place to get a replacement since the diameter on the non-threaded end is larger than the threaded end of the stock bolt

Over the past few days of driving, i've noticed that my shifter has had a lil more play room than usual. I go under the car to inspect and I found that bolt loose. I give the nut a couple turns and the bolt snaps, which means that bolt was already in the process of breaking. Good thing it didnt happen while driving

yeah, that'd be my guess. there are rubber bushings (one on top and bottom) that go on there as well. I had to take the bolt to a grinding wheel to make it fit the new bushings.

I don't think you should have to go through mazda to find that bolt, but you may have some trouble tracking down the right part. You could probably get by just fine using a regular bolt of the same diameter, but my first stop would just be your local auto parts store. You may as well get replacement bushings while you're at it, since those seem to have a tendency to degrade over time.

found this....the bolt I need in circled in red, but no part number

I had the exact same issue with my turbo Escort GT, I replaced it with a smaller diameter bolt and never had any issues with play whatsoever...

Sure the threaded end on the stock bolt might be smaller, but as long as the replacement bolt is the same overall diameter as the non threaded section, and roughly the same length it should work just fine. Or at least keep ya on the road until you can hunt down an OEM replacement.

^Good on you for spending the extra couple of bucks to get the right part. Mine was also impossible to remove when I tried installing new bushings...got some shop to do it while doing other work as there was no way I could have done it from under the car...

Yea I didnt see it in their parts catalog, so I just emailed jason and very quickly had a response. Bolt + nut= $5.04

For any of you with this same problem, the part# for the bolt is GA2A-46-133 and part# for the nut is 9994-00-800
